starfleet uniform

Sex thing?? You mean like in kirk's time?? If so, I was thinking about a voy uniform..

Maybe I should put it a different way...

Would it display a "wrong image" if I wore a stafleet uniform in daily life??

Honestly? Most people will think you're weird, some people might openly laugh at you or do it behind your back. If that's not the image you're going for, then yes, I guess that would be "bad". If you're looking for a job or a date, don't bother. I think people who'd seriously do this are eccentric at best and a bit mental at the worst. I've yet to meet such a person IRL, but the ones I've seen in films like Trekkies and have read about online do not work against this opinion. I'm sure a psychologist would have something to say about a person who escapes reality by wearing the uniform of a science fiction military organization every day. Note that I'm saying every day, not at home twice a year or on Hallowe'en or at a convention or even a movie premier, I'm not going to question a person's sanity for doing something that mundane.

People can do whatever they want, it's a free society. I'm not going to go out of my way to make the life of a person who wears a uniform every day miserable or anything.

However, we do not live in a utopia where people live and let live and no one will judge you for your actions. If you're going to dress in a Starfleet uniform every day, be prepared to face some scorn. Wishing it weren't that way will not "make it so".

So what I did there?

At a convention, Halloween or something similar it's fine. Anywhere else? People will stare at you and most of them will probably think you're a loser. If someone asks you why you're wearing it, say "I lost a bet!", that way you can keep at least a shred of dignity.

I've worn the FC undershirt in part of a combo on laundry day and worn the red version (and the waistcoat with a t shirt) to work, though thats all performance so it doesn't count (I actually considered being filled as the Red Shirt/Fanatic at one stage), but I can't imagine wearing anything full time.

People may think I've gone over the edge.

Though looking at my outfit today I do seem to be wearing Pines STIX outfit ;)

At a con or costume party--sure. That's the appropriate venue for costumes. But in real life...PLEASE don't. We Trek fans have a bad enough reputation without people deliberately drawing that kind of negative attention to themselves.

Look at it this way: Is it OK to dress as Luke Skywalker in everyday life? As one of The Three Musketeers? As a pirate? As Princess Buttercup? As that guy with one mascaraed eye from A Clockwork Orange?

No. Starfleet uniforms are costumes. If you persist in wearing a costume in everyday life, people will assume (with good reason) that you identify more with the fictional world that costume represents than with the world we actually live in. And they will judge you accordingly. So it's up to you. My suggestion is that you stick to wearing your uniform jersey or "Spock Lives!" T-shirt just every now and then.

Black pants and a correctly colored T shirt make a good "casual" uniform to wear in every day life, those who know the colors will get it, others will simply see a person in black pants and a colored T shirt.

I suppose it's better than dressing up as a Klingon in public. But I still wouldn't advise it. It'd be like self-pinning a note to your back saying "Kick me."

God I remember the flack that Barbra Adams got when as a juror for Whitewater, she wore hers to court. I think complete wih tricorder and phaser too.

Maybe use the public's reaction back then as a guide to whether or not you should now ??

Bingo, and here's why:

People would probably readily accept the uniform if you wore Picard's banana hammock from when he was on Risa for a few weeks first.

I think there are some pieces of uniforms that could be worn in public. Picards Jacket that they had him use during the 5th season would probably not draw a lot of attention or problems.

One of the layers of the First contact Uniforms would probably be okay, the gray jackets from Enterprise, the turtlenecks under the TWOK or DS9 uniforms and Enterprise's desert gear.

Of those, I could see myself wearing the Enterprise gray jacket in public. I have never seen it available, so I don't expect to ever.

I could understand Ms. Adams wearing the uniform as a statement of Trekkian ideals, but the toy phaser and tricorder were just ridiculous. I mean, was she going to shoot imaginary people or investigate imaginary anomalies with those things? Still, it doesn't hurt anyone.

If you're a guy, though, wearing a Star Trek uniform in public is a very bad idea unless you plan on never ever having sex.

To be honest, yes it makes you look a bell end, but why does society deem it okay for people to wear say a football/soccer shirt of your favourite team in real life?
Or a Rugby shirt, whatever, etc. That's perfectly normal and no one would care or take a second glance if one wore that walking down the highstreet. Yet I one wore a Starfleet uniform around town you'd probably end up getting harrased ala The Elephant Man

No you're not a Starfleet officer, and you never will be, you just like the show. But those others aren't professional football players, and they never will be, they just like watching the sport.
So what's the difference? Typical society bullshit
