Starfleet Medical show

And really, that's the key to making a Starfleet Medical show work. Just write compelling characters for the audience to give a damn about and no one would give two shits about whether the medical procedures depicted in episode 2x04 are consistent with those depicted in episode 1x12. Of course, Star Trek forgot how to write compelling characters a long time ago...
Quite right, on many levels.

Re: med-ship vs. stationary hospital

This is an easy fix: use a structure similar to the 1970's series Emergency! where the action is split between the guys out in the field (Squad 51) and back at the hospital (Rampart).

Have the setting be a Starfleet hospital station which deploys a number of mobile medical teams - say in runabouts or a variant thereof. Small purpose-built and equipped to respond to medical emergencies. This gives you an action oriented aspect for the show. Meanwhile, you've got the doctors and medical specialists back at the station who deal with issues larger in scope arising often from the field teams - this gives you a place to do more involved philosophical stories, perhaps. Sometimes this could be revered - the hospital staff runs into some problem and one or more field teams must go find solutions(s) out "in the wild" so to speak.

A series like that of the SCE ebooks, where you had a small team of medical experts sent in to deal with particularly hazardous missions might work. You could have longer arcs dealing with bigger issues as well as stand alone episodes for one off issues. So long as they had the right characters, with the right dynamics, that played off well against one another then it could work--most people don't watch medical dramas to learn about diseases or the human body, they tune in because of the main/supporting cast that they're invested in.

The focus could be on a specialist team, with the ships crew being more in a supporting role. Like the SCE team, a small, fast, versatile ship would make the most sense, they can get to a crisis quickly, make initial assessments and call in reinforcements as needed without risking a lot of personnel.

A show taking place on a Starfleet Medical ship could certainly work. Hence I'm very hopeful about such especially with the most recent news about the upcoming Starfleet Academy show.
So here's a few examples of Starfleet Medical ships in these clips;

With very good writing, production, acting etc., this could be an interesting and innovative show indeed! :hugegrin::techman:
