I came up with a crew breakdown for the TMP-era Enterprise many years ago, using two sources: costume designer Bob Fletcher's notes about uniform department colors for Star Trek II, and Mr Scott's Guide To The Enterprise. Plus occasionally counting heads in the actual movies.

Marion, this is extremely USEFUL to me, as gamemaster of Star Trek Adventures. I am responsible for creating character cards for "Supporting Characters" in the game, which are basically used in two circumstances: 1) when the PC Officer and head of a department needs to bring together a team to do a job. 2) When the PC officer (main character) is stuck aboard the ship for some reason, in sickbay, or in command or working on some project for the captain) rather than have the Player sit at the table twitting their thumbs while the other players beam down to the planet, the Player is given a Supporting Character card to roleplay! As the ship only has 73 officers and crew, it's not that large of a list. For example, Security on USS Twilight, a Nova Class vessel, only has a dozen security officers. There are also 12 medical specialists, and 11 scientists. This is besides the captain, XO, and the rest of the Bridge crew. Special miniatures for the crew were obtained by special artists on Etsy.com, as were printing up my game mats/Battlemats on cloth disks to lay on the table. Again, THANK YOU!
