News Starfleet Academy Nielsen Ratings

Paramount rolled out Starfleet Academy with a two-episode premiere — a strategy specifically designed to inflate total minutes viewed and generate early momentum. Even with that built-in advantage, the series couldn’t break into Nielsen’s Originals rankings during its debut week.

According to this, it couldn't muster 1.27M views for each episode in its debut and can barely even make the P+ internal charts.

Is it fair to call these ratings a "disaster" as the article says?

People can dismiss the source, but the numbers are the numbers. This looks bad.

Wow. Thats bad even for shows in modern times. Well hopefully the sussman Archer show will get picked up and the kurtzman era can come to a close. But this is paramount. They never seem to make good decisions for star trek anymore.

Objectively it is, as they say, "not good". It didn't hit Nielsen's Top 10 originals; at its best, it can peek in at the bottom of P+'s Top 10 when a new episode releases before dropping off a day later under the weight of Sabrina: The Teenage Witch and King of Queens repeats.

Sussman Archer show? I know who you're watching, and he's about as accurate as a broken clock.

So basically, no interest in the discussion, then. Crazy idea, but have you ever considered not dispensing your dour 2c in every single thread?

This isn't the first time a Star Trek show has had low ratings and it won't be the last.

Personally I think Episode 6 represents a tonal shift for the series and generally what we can expect from here on out. I think the first few episodes were so heavy with hijinks intentionally to get that shit out of the way. Now it's about these kids learning what it takes to be Starfleet heroes. If the energy of episode 6 can be maintained (and I trust it will because of Tawny Newsom) then the critical reaction will grow and ratings will improve.

No its accurate. Sussman is pitching a archer show its been in the star trek news for a few months. Sounds pretty cool to be honest.

If youre talking about this one, it really doesn't - if people accuse SFA of being more soap opera than Trek, this reads like it's just going to have more of the family drama aspect.

Dour? I'm not the one going "this looks bad" about numbers that have no bearing on actual entertainment.

Fretting or crowing about the ratings is above my pay grade. Either I enjoy a show or don’t. It’s not an indication of quality or value, just popularity.

If I was worried about popularity, I wouldn’t be a Star Trek fan. ;)
Exactly. Thank.you.

You mean a blue bloods style show?

Except it doesn't read like Blue Bloods, at best it sounds like Designated Survivor in that it wants to be Trek, The West Wing and an espionage drama in one go.
I'll have to do some more research into this, for the life of my I can't say whether I like this or not. On one hand, more Archer. On the other hand, idk if that would translate SUPER well. Though, I was skeptical of SFA as well, and was glad to eat my slice of humble pie on that one.

It's the No.1 show in Canada and the U.K.!
Two huge, major markets for Pee Plus!
But you're gonna get fingers wagging in your face if you point out SFA is a ratings disaster.
And a certain member on this board will come and exclaim ratings don't matter because his personal enjoyment is the universe's greatest accomplishment!

Whatever helps you cope.

First of all, there was no interest in the show from the very start.
Blame Paramount's marketing, blame the racist chuds, blame the entire fucking world that even the minorities hate other minorities but the honest truth is the subject matter for SFA had zero momentum from the start.
Older fans didn' even tune in, and the mythical younger Gen-Z and Gen-Alpha fans that Pee Plus was so desperate to chase doesn't fucking exist.
But I am a racist chud if I point out the failures of this show and obviously us fans of Star Trek cant accept minorities on our screens.
Despite, of course, a minority led show - His & Hers - is the number one show nearly a month in.

You edited out your announcement of who you put on ignore, I guess either because you realized too late that it wouldn’t fly or because you were thinking we wouldn’t notice. Either way, according to the post history it was visible for several minutes. And since you’re still on somewhat thin ice with the staff, it’s a warning for flaming another poster. Comments to PM.

Ok. Im good with that. Sounds like archer would get the chance to see a little action in his later years while the federation is developing.
