Based on a few pictures of the cast out of costume? This looks like it has potential to be worse than S31.

And you trip on PIC3 while trying. That's an incredibly low bar to clear.
Well I said POTENTIALBased on a few pictures of the cast out of costume?
It’s a premise almost as old as TrekWell I said POTENTIAL
Given the premise, the people involved, and I what I believe PARA wants to do with ST, I don't think it falling short of S31 is a long shot.
The small bit of images I saw today certainly didn't help.
You certainly can't claim that everyone in Starfleet has to be a perfect model of physical fitness, we know that's never been the case.
You guys don't get it. It's okay for men to be fat above a certain age, they've earned the right to put on weight, which actually helps enhance their aura of masculinity. Women, particularly women below a certain ageBecause Starfleet would never have fat people among their numbers:
Yes, some do.Or do you want Star Trek to die with you?
Sort. Same EPs who are pretty much involved with all the Trek shows. (Two from each production company) Plus a new name (Loga Landau) exclusive to STSFA. A few have been involved with shows like the Handmaid's Tale and Vikings. The show is about college kids made by many of the same people who made Discovery.
I don't think that the people disparaging the premise of Starfleet Academy understand that Star Trek needs this ability to appeal to people of my generation and younger - an accessible invitation into the franchise to introduce its many great ideas and themes as well foster enthusiasm to check out other shows and movies they might not have been interested in otherwise - and build a fanbase to carry Star Trek forward.
Young minds, fresh ideas. Be tolerant.
Or do you want Star Trek to die with you?
The problem with appealing to old fans is that it often devolves into nostalgia baiting which is not at all appealing to new fans. I like SNW for its story structure, mostly episodic and self-contained nature while also carrying through emotional beats and developments; not because it follows the Enterprise and I have all these TOS characters and other references waved in front of me. I would think that the idea of a Starfleet Academy show in and of itself would be alluring to old fans, as @fireproof78 says it would appeal to kid wishes.Trek can't make it on just new fans. It also has to appeal to old fans. The reasons SNW works is because it feels both old fashioned yet also modern at the same time. Now I am not sure a bunch Starfleet cadets acting like futuristic Gen Z will cut it if that is their main and only goal. You got to find that balance the way shows like "Stranger Things" and 'Cobra Kai" have done. Star Trek will never be cool. But it can appeal to older fans and young nerds if they do it right. Perhaps it's time for Trek to accept what it is and act it's age and stop trying to be that old guy at the dance club who is clearly to old to be doing what he is doing.
Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti and Robert Picardo will get more than a few people to watch. The writing will determine if they stay.
They are, quite frankly, the only reason I have any interest in the show.Holly Hunter, Paul Giamatti and Robert Picardo will get more than a few people to watch. The writing will determine if they stay.
The people who made those shows aren’t working on this one, so that makes no senseI'd be more willing to go along with the idea that Star Trek needs a series set in a school to bring younger viewers into the franchise if I hadn't seen Young Sherlock Holmes and James Bond Jr. and Class and so on.
I guess Wicked is getting people into the Wizard of Oz franchise, so there's that.
