News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

Which part of south asia though? Michelle Yeoh is Malaysian. Isa Briones is half Filipino and as previously mentioned Shazid Latif and Rekha Sharma are Pakistani and Indian respectively. All of those ethnicities are considered South Asian.
He seems to want characters from the India-Pakistan area.

Bob Picardo will be a regular!

That announcement had me wondering what The Doctor will look like in the 32nd century:

I have to admit, seeing the inside of some Starfleet ships would be fun. The 32nd century shuttle was definitely different, curious as to what a bridge or sickbay would be like.

Lots and lots of computer graphics and holographic displays is my guess. Perhaps no more corridors and everyone just beams themselves from one room to another.

I wonder if Wiseman simply got a better job elsewhere. Blew up their plans. I am also wondering who is the series main lead. My guess it will be one of the cadets but they have been unclear about this. Personally I think it should be Holly Hunter.

Surprised that Tig Notaro is a regular and Mary Wiseman isn't.

I think it might be a case of it being a similar situation to Michelle Forbes when she was playing Ensign Ro. Forbes was happy to be playing a recurring character and didn't want to be tied down to a series which is why he turned down DS9. Wiseman had a theatre role during the filming of Disco Season 5, so maybe wants to be able to pursue other projects while working on SFA. Alex Kurtzman and the other showrunners seem to be pretty supportive of cast members having side gigs.

Wiseman also separated from and divorced Noah Averbach-Katz (who played Ryn the Andorian) last year. Maybe she is still dealing with the fallout of that, and doesn't want to be a main cast member this season.

Whatever it reason, it doesn't mean that she can't be promoted to series regular later down the line.

Wow, I have to confess I didn't care much for the Academy series but upon having seen the returning characters, color me intrigued. Even if Tilly is only returning as a guest or possible recurring character. I definitely didn't expect Bob Picardo to show up, but I'm eagerly anticipating the Doctor's verbal battles with Reno now.

I think given the Doctor's stance in Tuvix, they would probably each think of themselves as being distinct and separate from the other. Probably each with their own lives and concerns. It's a neat idea, but I think it unlikely and out of character for the Doctor(s).

I'm not. She left for most of Season 4. Even in Season 5, though she was main cast all the way through, she wasn't really very integral to the season, having a role in the opening two episodes, and then Whistlespeak, and otherwise being pretty much relegated to background roles that the bridge extras could have done.

Ouch. They weren't married for long at all, so this is pretty surprising.

She has a role in an upcoming Shonda Rhimes series for Netflix, The Residence. So her availability is probably limited. It's been filming since February and had been filming prior to the 2023 strike.

Good for her! I hadn't seen that. I'm also glad that she's at least going to be able to return to Star Trek in a recurring role.

The casting news overall definitely makes me more excited for this series. More Reno is always welcome.
