News Starfleet Academy Coming to P+

I'm not optimistic about it..but I'm still gonna give it a stab

This. I'll monitor production progress and give the first couple episodes a look, but I'm not optimistic by any means. Though I can be wrong, I thought Picard was going to be great and Lower Decks awful, now I feel the exact opposite about both of them.

Plus it's 815 years after the final season of DS9. Ferengi can intermix with other species or tamper with their own genome. For all we know Ferenginar suffers a major ecological or technological disaster (or both) between 2375 and 3190 and that's just how many of them look in that century.

Star Trek isn't a comic book.

Edit: I didn't mean to be dismissive about comic books, which often have very good visual continuity.
Close enough for government work. They're both works of narrative fiction steeped in continuity. Characters in comics literally change depending on who's drawing them. Costumes get altered. Entire back stories get reinterpreted. All with in continuity.

Honestly all I needed was to see was one normal-looking Ferengi and I wouldn't have cared. I can accept all kinds of ridiculous explanations for differences as long as they're acknowledged as different in universe. And Picard just gave me a great looking Ferengi, so whatever, Disco's off the hook as far as I'm concerned.

And if a leaked photo from a Season 2 set of SNW is any hint then we'll also get to give the DSC Season 1 and 2 Klingons a pass since TNG-style and possibly even Augment Klingons may be returning.

It's preposterous that Picard believed for an instant that he could commandeer a ship of the line on the strength of having been...something or other at some earlier point in his life.

To be fair, it was a Riker plan. And Riker was relying on his charm to sell it, and it didn't work on Shaw.

It was all in-character.

Debating a mod is never a good idea, so I'll just say it's great this BBS allows for an open discussion of continuity/canon. There are major Reddits that ban such discussion.
Comparing it to different versions of Hamlet is a false equivalency ;)

All those versions of Hamlet aren't supposed to exist in the same cohesive timeline.

With all forms of fiction, it best to remember that there is going to be some artistic flair added depending on who is working on it. Something like Trek has artists working on the makeup effects, props, and digital effects who while trying to honor what came before also want to add their own distinctive elements. It’s just more noticeable now because TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT were made by the same people and reused a lot of elements to save money.

I mean, even the Trandoshans in the Disney+ streaming series have more articulated, CGI faces than the old Bossk mask from 1980 and 1983. Exact same species. Same look. Just updated so the mouths and eyes can move more(or even at all). That's how I look at adding aztecing and other hull details to a TOS Era Connie like the Defiant or the New Jersey.

As in "Riker is known to be drunkenly stupid and high on airplane glue at all times and Picard is a mindless robot follower?"

Because that's not how I remember the characters.

To be fair, that plot point like so much on Picard is just bullshit. If you like, you can go right ahead and hold Trek shows you dislike the premise of to standards that the shows you promote can't meet, but it's pretty easy to see through.

Look at all these Universes.

Bad and dishonorable, somewhat honorable but still kinda criminal in behavior, good but not terrible honorable and skirting tradtion and then the types who obsess over honor and duty and their cultural upbringing.

Picards been a mindless follower for the last two seasons of this show. He only grew a backbone a few episodes into this season.

And Riker has tried to use charm to his advantage before.

Albeit, not so successfully there either.

They implied the whale disappeared. I wondered what Gillian did after that?

Who did? When?

Whale swallowed the cloaking device. ;)

Yeah, I was wondering what Finn meant here. If you're thinking of
Picard 306, I'm pretty certain Seven meant The Bounty disappeared, not the whales.

What, that Star Trek is a work of fiction and that it shouldn’t be taken as a literal historical document?
Take that back! I refuse to believe this.
