Game Starfield

I got so excited about Starfield with the trailers and promos I did that thing people do and pre-ordered it.

After more than a few hours playing disappointment set in.

 Don't feel bad - I did the same thing with Cyberpunk 2077 and learned that lesson hard.

We all have that one game that we must have, pre-order it, and turns into a big day-zero turd sandwich.

It really is though isn't it?

They promo the heck out of a game, make what seems like so many promises. Then when you get the game it's a turd sandwich. This probably won't the the last turd sandwich AAA game either.

On the other hand another game that got the shit beaten out of it after launch was Forsaken which is actually a lot of fun but despite not being a financial success they are still trying to flog it at full price.

I must've played Cyberpunk 4 times for the different life paths and endings. I liked it. But there was a significant issue...

Starfield, tough cookie. I enjoyed the Terrormorph storyline more than the Starborn a-plot, loved outpost building and doing the boring stuff like surveying. Seriously, the Starborn stuff, so done with multiverse shit I can't even...

Anyway, the BIG issues with Cyberpunk and Starfield. BUGS! absolutely bugged to fuck, but maybe I'm alone on this? Cyberpunk was patched enough to make it playable, but Starfield is an ass to play.
I can't go to Va'ruun'kai without it crashing every 30 mins, Akila is just as bad now.

I guess Xbox series S players have drawn the short straw? No idea, but it's infuriating beyond belief.

I finally sat down and put some serious time into Starfield. The game has a ton of ups and downs, though as I write this, I haven't messed with crafting or ship building. I'm a missions guy.

  • The space combat is fun at lower difficulty, just a pain in the ass the higher you go.
  • The game has the traditional Bethesda issue. It is load screen to load screen gaming.
  • The dialogue, pretty much across the board, feels like it was written by a lifetime HR rep.
  • Early missions are pretty underwhelming. It gets better once you get to the Starborn.
  • Gun play is fun.
  • The repetitiveness of the temples reminds me of the Remnant stuff in Mass Effect: Andromeda.
  • Sarah Morgan is a pain in the ass, but great with a gun. Unfortunately she is incredibly dull and preachy.
  • Shattered Space is just unmitigated ass.
  • Bugs, especially in quests, are still a major problem.
There is a great game in there, somewhere.

In the 7 months since my previous post I've gone straight into NG+ and haven't looked back. Infinitely more playable now, most bugs dissappeared and thats even with Shattered Space sucking up memory.

Yep, I still find time to place this game. Bethesda, however, aren't really the ones responsible for that. Several independent Modders have added stuff in the Creations store, promoted by Bethesda, and it's just added to it in fun and interesting ways.

Everbright is my most recent addition (paid addition, but only a few dollars). It's like a mini Shattered Space but you get a new romanceable companion (WooOOOooo) and some story quests that might indicate intelligences beyond our own...

Mclarence Outfitters has become useful ongoing side-hustle too. It feels you can actually do stuff with your gear now, and even start upgrading it into legendary quality! (Level 150 here, and I've NEVER found a legendary weapon that can fire Heavy fuse. Stache at the Trackers Alliance keeps giving me the same old crap)

I hear rumours of another DLC coming eventually, possibly around the time of the PS5 launch

I just hope they've learned a valuable lesson by now.
