7-27-10 release ==*

no sleep till 27 woot... or after that .,

any know of pre-release stuff?

Are you planning on getting the normal edition or the special, the special comes with the usual books, music etc etc aaaaaaaaand a dogtag memory stick with the original game loaded on.
Just out of curiosity, what with the original game having trouble on some modern computers (like mine). Does anyone know if they're fixing this for the dogtag edition or not?

I'm getting the Collector's Edition, pre-ordered it months ago. $150 freaking dollars for a PC game. Bastards.

I don't know about the dogtag SC1 release, sorry. I don't attach much value to SC1's inclusion, but I could use the memory key. For my part I'm wondering whether the WoW mini-Thor pet which also comes with the CE has sound/voice effects.

Shame, atm I'm torn on which to get and seen as my original copy now looks kinnda funny when I try to run it, that was gonna be the tipping point. Might still get the collectors, will have to see. Don't play wow anymore so the pet's useless to me.

I don't imagine that Blizzard would make any alterations to SC1 for the SC2 CE that wouldn't be filtered back through to the version you can buy from their online store. And if you already own the game and still have the key then you can register your copy to a Battle.net account and proceed to (re)download it from there. No need for the original CDs.

Depending on how it's integrated (and, y'know, how awesome it is) you might be able to sell it.

I'll be buying it. Not the collector's edition, but whatever. I'd like the WoW pet but it's not worth paying an extra $100 for, lol.

IIRC the US prices are $59/$99 respectively for the standard/collector's editions.

I'm in it mostly for the art book. I have the Warcraft III and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade CEs and their art books rock. Interestingly, the WC3 CE art book contains some early WoW material.

On a different note, the beta is up to patch 17. Who would've thought, an actual beta in this day and age?

^ I would as well, if I could hold out for two or more years to start playing StarCraft II, because we all know Blizzard will take that long to release Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void.

Ah, good, my PC is right on the recommended specs listed on that page, guess I can hold off on upgrading until at least next year :D

The sad thing about Starcraft 2 is that after all the hype they've built up, there's no way it won't be a disappointment.

Yeah. I can't envision the trilogy being wrapped up before Christmas 2011 at the earliest.

What hype?

thinking that commercial is hyped lots.,

i have the requirements once the powersupply is replaced for a second time, :(

my dual dual core processors from amd is doa for now ,, @#$%

I don't think I've seen much in the way of publicity, there was the "bout time commercial" a while back and they've been leaking in game footage to us for a while but nothing that makes me think they might have over done it. I think it's gonna be pretty damm sweet.
I think it's also nice to see a PC game being released for as wide an audiance as possible instead of always trying to push systems past their breaking points

Starcraft II cost $100 million?!?!?!?!

Complete Gamespot.com article

....

According to the Wall Street Journal, Activision Blizzard has spent over $100 million on the three-part sequel to the science-fiction real-time strategy game, which kicks off with Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty on July 27.

The report stated the $100 million was purely development price and made no mention of marketing expenditures. That lofty figure well exceeds Gran Turismo 5's $60 million development cost, one of the most expensive video games to date.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has previously labeled the Starcraft franchise as one of the company's seven "pillars of opportunity." Kotick said each pillar has the potential to reap between $500 million and $1 billion of operating profit for the publisher throughout its life. The other pillars are Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, World of Warcraft, Diablo, new Blizzard MMOG, and Bungie's new intellectual property.

Frankly, I find that difficult to believe. Sure, it's been a long project - in pre-production since 2003 - but it's also been a relatively small one, around 40 people minus Cinematics/Sound/QA and other stuff that's off in its own cross-title departments. Possibly they're including the cost of the new Battle.net in with that? I don't know about Bnet 2.0 specifically, but Bnet (1.0 and 2.0) + WoW together run on something like 100k CPU cores and 100TB of RAM.

We'll be lucky if it wraps up before Christmas 2014. :p
This is Blizzard you know.

I'm getting the Collector's Edition. :)
