Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for $7.48

OK, I just saw SW:TFU for 360 at Target brand new for $7.48. I know the game got terrible reviews, but at that price is it worth it for a SW fan? Any thoughts from folks who have played the game?

^I'd advise against buying that. Lucasarts are releasing an "Ultimate Sith Edition" of the game shortly with two new "What If ?" style missions.

At the end of the game you are given the choice of either attacking the Emperor (the canon ending) or choosing to become his new apprentice and killing Vader. If you choose to kill Vader the cutscene shows you then turning on the Emperor as well. Starkiller is severely injured and ends up much like Vader, wearing life support equipment.

The two What Ifs follow on from the alternate ending. First you are sent to Tattooine to kill Obi-Wan (and Boba Fett in Jabba's palace along the way) - this is also available as DLC. Then you are sent to Hoth to kill Luke Skywalker - this is only available with the new version of the game.

In general, it's a really fun game but it has some extremely frustrating moments. A certain boss battle (I suppose you'd call it that) that was heavily featured in the build up for the game is possibly one of the worst and most heavily glitched let downs in gaming history. PS2 and PSP owners are lucky in that their version skips it entirely.

Thanks for the reply! Looks like the MSRP on the Sith edition is $40, which makes me wonder if it's worth an extra $32 just for a bit of extra DLC. It would have to be some damn fantastic extra missions to make it worth that much extra $$$. Has the DLC been really great for this game?

I haven't tried any of it. As they're pretty much asking those of us who already bought it to pay for the full game over again just for the Hoth mission, I'm not best pleased with them right now.

The reviews were far from terrible mostly mixed, it never fufilled the vast potential but at the end I found a mostly a worthy game to play and its fun going back to random levels with all your power ups to mess around after you completed game.

I gave it 8.0 score in gamespot review.

Yeah, the only reason it's at that price is because of the 'new' release coming up. I liked the game, but I haven't played it since I finished it.

7.50?! Hell yeah! I don't care about the new version I just want to see the story. Hopefully this will be at my Target!

It got a 73 on Metacritic, which isn't great but isn't a total failure either. I think I'll go ahead and pick up the original game at the Target discount - sounds like it will be fun, but probably not worth shelling out the extra $$$ for a few extra missions.

I went to my Target today and they're selling it for $19.98. And that's on the sale.

I went there today (Atlanta area) and they had a whole stack for $7.48 on a shelf. So I picked it up! Can't wait to give it a try.

It's worth it for $20. Not the greatest game in the world, but I had a blast and I really enjoyed the story line. It takes a few twists and turns that I didn't expect. After Batman's sublime fighting system, TFU's combat pales, but it is still decent. And tossing stormtroopers around never gets dull.

I loved the game when it first came out and I still love it today. Greatest game ever? No, but still awesome. Love the combat, love the fuckin story. Great story!

Some of the achievements on 360 are a real bitch though. Killing 500 people with Lightning Shield, fuckin seriously?

It depends if they put it on clearance or not which is on a special end cap usually. I've seen Heavenly Sword, Mirror's Edge, Conan and others there before (for $7.48), but YMMV between stores as to what's put there and what's not.

This price is a YMMV at Target. But it is today's (Aug. 31) video game deal of the day at Amazon.com for $9.98.
