I'm skeptical on the issue of the order having supposedly "fallen to the dark side", but to some extent I think it's an issue of semantics. At any rate, I don't think Barriss should be taken as symptomatic of the whole order, any more than, say, Sora Bulq.

Maybe not "fallen" to the darkside but consumed by it, at least according to Yoda. I'd say Barris's fall was precisely a symptom of this slide. She felt the shift all around her and didn't understand how nobody else could feel it. In a way she was more switched on then even Yoda, it's just her youth and inexperience led her to lash out at the order she felt had betrayed it's core principles and in the process, fell even further herself.

I think Lucas mentioned somewhere that the Dark Side of the force is not a passive thing, but an almost cancerous presence. That once it has it's hooks in someone it'll actively consume them, twisting every good intention towards evil.

The problem is that that's the same terminology Yoda used in the films to describe Darth Vader. So it would seem that Yoda's putting the entire Jedi order on a par with a bona fide Sith lord. As if the Jedi had turned. As if there is no difference. That doesn't really track. Of course, from an out-of-universe perspective, what we're seeing is a clash between Lucas writing SW and other people writing SW.

She felt the shift all around her and didn't understand how nobody else could feel it.

But they could feel it... they even said as much, in AOTC and in a ROTS deleted scene. Maybe she assumed that she was the only one who could feel it - which would fit with the rest of her behavior.

I think Lucas mentioned somewhere that the Dark Side of the force is not a passive thing, but an almost cancerous presence.

Technically, Lucas only ever used a cancer analogy in describing the unhealthy relationship embodied in the Sith master-apprentice dynamic. To my knowledge, he never described the dark side itself as cancerous, using that word ( though there is a pervasive internet myth that he did ). But I agree that it would be incorrect to call it a passive thing.

When Stover wrote the ROTS novelization, he started writing the Dark Side as a conscious presence willfully corrupting people, but Lucas made him re-write it.

This discussion is really making me hope we get a detailed look at Ben's corruption and fall some time.

I just watched that video I posted again. Is Rey in a lot of the merchandise or did Charly just have a nice video wank with his rant?

I know with the Avengers that there was not a lot of Black Widow stuff. Unless you went to the really expensive brands like Hot Toys. $300 for a figure no thanks, but they do make good quality.

I tried playing your video but it's no longer available. It's been pulled from YouTube.

Yeah, it's blocked or pulled on my end. And I'm having no other issues watching other YouTube links.

OK guys that's so odd. I have peeps in the UK that said they could see it.

What if you googled "Weekly show: gendered toys"

I might try that. Thanks for the suggestion.

If that does not work here's my quick and dirty summary of the video.

For those that can't see the video the point he made about Black Widow is that there's a scene in the movie where she comes flying out of the quinjet on a motorcycle and does stuff in the movie, but in the playset they kept that scene intact but instead of her they put Captain America on the motorbike. She's nowhere to be seen. The guy made a funny comment noticing this and wondered if she stayed behind to do the cleaning on the jet...

Gamora is a huge part of GOTG so why isn't she in the merchandise? Why Marvel, why?

It's not really clear what the intention was with Rey's parents. They could've easily ripped off ANH slightly more & had her parents killed on Jakku for character motivation/drama. With Luke, his father turned out to be Vader & his mom turned out to be an unnamed dead person (Padme is strictly a Prequel character), so I think we're expecting some variation of that premise. But who knows.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this, so apologies if this is a repeat. I found it quite amusing.
