I certainly want a Lando film...

I think, much like the Boba Fett movie, that it would be pushing the bounds of general audience interest. They need to figure a way to bring the costs of these side movies way down.

Maybe but from what I've seen, audiences have really enjoyed Donald Glover's performance as Lando and he has a fairly large fan base of his own. If done right, I could see such a film having the kind of impact Black Panther did this year by showing a positive black lead in a space adventure (as oppose to playing second fiddle to others like Lando has or as a co-lead like Finn).

That said, I agree it is a risk considering the reception Solo has received, but I think that's a result of multiple factors.

Just got back from seeing the movie. I enjoyed it and gave it a B+. It was a fun summer movie, it had a few issues, but nothing to ruin the experience.
I thought the kid playing Solo did a good job and Glover was great as Lando.

I happened to have seen the Clone Wars cartoons, so I knew about Maul coming back...but the first thing I thought on seeing him was this has to be a set-up for an Kenobi movie.

Still kind of surprised this movies not doing a little better at the box office than it is.

I think, as some have been lamenting, that had this waited until December it would have fared better.. More time between this and the last one and it allows the other summer movies to dominate and not be lost in the mix.

I think this set itself up for a possible sequel, but with lackluster returns out of the gate, I'm afraid that doesn't look likely.. In fact, I'm betting the Fett movie might get canned or at least drastically scaled back, budget-wise. I do think you're right about Maul's appearance being a set up for a Kenobi stand alone, which I think would make the most financial sense at this point.

Honestly, IMHO, I think Solo will have legs. There are some really nice elements to this movie that I think are being overlooked, and people will rebound at see it later on DVD/streaming.

What I'd do is set up an Avengers sort of thing where Maul and the Crimson Sun are connective tissue linking Fett and Lando movies and showing how he went from galactic mob boss to the scrounger we see in Rebels (as well as filling in how he went from bisected Sith lord to cyborg crime boss for the movies-only fans). You could be bring in Kenobi, too (there's nothing in Rebels to say Maul hadn't seen him since TCW, just that he believed Ben was dead and didn't know (where) he was on Tatooine), but it'd be tricky to thread the needle. Maybe have the smaller-scale western-style story we all want for most of the film, and the final act is Ben making a quick trip off-world to ruin Maul's day when he finds out whose behind whatever group of gangsters and toughs that are menacing Tatooine in general and, perhaps, the Larses in particular.

I saw it on opening night. I wasn't expecting a lot but I thought it was fun. Ehrenreich doesn't really evoke Harrison Ford for me but I don't think anyone could. Harrison Ford is one of those once-per-generation movie star talents. Putting that aside, Ehrenreich does certainly put in a likable performance as a fun character. Overall, I'd say Solo is certainly my favorite of the 4 Disney-era movies that we've gotten so far.

So I just worry (well, not literally worry, but you know) that neither might happen after the lukewarm box office. Maybe if it ends up having pretty good legs...

Even if it doesn't, they can always give it spiffy new robot legs! :D

Maul hasn’t seen Kenobi since the Clone Wars according to Rebels, so I doubt he will be involved.

Maul was a late addition by Joe Kasdan and Ron Howard apparently. So he wasn’t in the original script. The character was just “Boss” and they had a list of possible characters, including Maul.

He also wasn't a set up towards any future movies. He literally is just a cameo.

Well he could be lying to hide the truth, or just doesn’t know of any plans.

I liked the movie as well. But folks are saying that the movie is gonna be a flop by Star Wars standards.

Maybe they should have released the movie in December instead of May. It could have avoided failure at the box office as a result. The Last Jedi had just ended it's domestic run a few months ago and is still showing in some foreign markets. Star Wars fatigue may have been a factor in Solo being a flop.

You got a new Star Wars movie coming out every year now. Even Harry Potter and the Jame Bond movies have gaps between their release.

That standard needs to change. I mean, it can hardly be expected that if we are getting more SW films than ever before that they keep performing at the same rate.

Or something like that.

That writer spends most of his time just writing ‘Stephen Colbert said [this] last night.’ With a link to the video. And no commentary.

Is this...normal, for The Wrap? Should I be googling to see if he cribbed that Star Wars ‘report’ from tumblr, or something?

Also: how do I apply for a job there? Because at the moment, I do that shit for free.

I know it will never happen but I'd be curious to see Ingruber's audition. I really enjoyed Ehrenreich's take on the character, though. I wouldn't mind seeing him again some day.
