Star Wars Rebels Season One (spoilers)

You may have already read elsewhere, but a high profile character from The Clone Wars is now rumored to be returning:
Hondo Onaka
although we have no idea when... next week or next year?
Fu** that guy, bring us Ahsoka! :klingon:

I guess I'm a week behind everyone else, having just seen Vision of Hope. I have to go with not being terribly impressed with this one. Maybe if they'd featured him a bit more in the show before now his working for the Empire might have been more of a surprise.
The Empire slipping back into their incompetent ways didn't particularly impress either.

So is this the first time the group has actually referred to themselves as "Rebels"?

Otoh, Chopper continues to become less of a dick, and I've actually been rather enjoying watching the kids growth as a Jedi apprentice, and learning how to use the Force is a lot more complicated than being able to use a laser sword and standing on your head.

Pretty impressive how far Ezra's come from the obnoxious little street rat of the first episode.

Well the local Imperials slipping back to incompetent makes who's coming more understandable.

Soka was forced on CW crew by Lucas.

I don't know a female padawan character was included in the original idea for The Clone Wars (which sounds an awful lot like what we got with Rebels).

"Call to Action" was great! Nice to see the bad guys win this time. And it was particularly wonderful to see Tarkin because I finally got the Tarkin novel and I'm reading it right now!!!

Okay, kind of a stakes-raiser. But Tarkin's plan didn't make a lot of sense. If they knew the rebels were targeting the communications tower, why didn't they anticipate that they'd use it to broadcast a message? Why not rig the tower's systems so that they couldn't send it out?

"What? In our moment of a triumph? I think you overestimate their chances."

Ja, never underestimate the arrogance factor. Up until now, the Rebellion wasn't even a genuine rebellion yet--just a few unorganized malcontents and outlaws.

Tarkin and other moffs may have to reconsider that...

I also liked how Tarkin mentioned there are already rebel groups everywhere, they're just not working together. Methinks Season Two will involve them hooking up with a second group.

Perhaps he wants a general uprising on Lothal in order to give the still somewhat tenuous (and dependent on the good graces of the Senate) Empire justification to launch total war against the populace and suppress them once and for all. He seemed disappointed with the idea that the Lothal Rebels were "non-violent" compared to other Rebel cells (which was an odd comment since the Spectre team have blown up and shot a lot of Imperials and vehicles and facilities, so I'm guessing he might be including Rebel sympathizers on the planet as well). He used this incident as justification for presumably knocking out much of the planet's communications, so now they're more isolated from news of the outside galaxy than ever, and likewise might have difficulty getting the word out of any atrocities that the Empire might start perpetrating on the planet. It fits his over-the-top "fear will keep the local systems in line" total war strategy from ANH.

Anyway, great episode. Good use of Imperial music, nice city and vehicle design (loved the half LAAT/half TIE assault craft), high stakes, and a wonderful appearance by Tarkin at his equal parts sarcastic, arrogant, and terrifying best. The Inquisitor beheading the two Imperial henchmen was pretty hardcore for a kid's show, even if they didn't actually show it.

The identity of Fulcrum seems to have been discovered:

It's Ahsoka.

In retrospect, I suppose it should have been obvious (though it never crossed my mind); the symbol Fulcrum used to identify the crate in "Droids in Distress" matches Ahsoka's forehead markings. Disguising her voice was clever misdirection, though.

Awesome news!

Come ooonnnnn Kyle Katarn.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I was shocked when they killed TWO recurring villains like that. Well done.

He might have assumed they only wanted to destroy a valuable communications tower or communicate with other rebel groups, and never imagined they would risk so much and go through all that trouble just to send out a simple broadcast.
