Star Wars: Question on ROTS?

ok, so i was watching a few scenes of this last night and had a couple questions.

who, other than palpatine, knew he was both the darth sideous and palpatine? did dooku know? he had an surprise look on his face when he turned to palpatine just before annakin executed him. did gunray know? he also had a similar expression to dooku when annakin executed him. "lord sideous promised us peace." or was palpatine's power of the force so great that nobody knew his true identity?

if others knew, could the jedi have allied with the separatists and the droid army? could they have stopped palpatine and the clones or was it too late?

why didn't we see any new droids in the movie? in ep2 we saw the super battle droid, a mach 2 of the B1 in ep1 so why wasn't there a mach 3 in ROTS? how close were the separatists to achieving victory?

what about mace windu - would he have turned to the dark side if he had killed palpatine? or was palpatine just waiting for annakin to kill him so he could turn to the dark side? did mace windu really die in the movie? i was looking on another site and the rumor is he didn't die and actually transitions to a new role as lando calrissian. it's just a rumor because lucas hasn't confirmed or denied it.

so many questions because so much happened in this film compared to the other episodes.

He knew they were the same person. As a Sith betrayal is a way of life but Sith are usually so self-involved they do get surprised when it happens. He was also surprised by the fact Anakin was going to follow Palp's orders and how far Anakin had fallen, how Palp's had manipulated the boy and how badly he had miscalculated what was going on.

I don't know if Gunray ever met with Sidious face to face, so it is possible he had no idea.

Sidious was able to blind the Jedi to his force awareness.

It doesn't matter which side they are on, they would be under the control of the same evil bastard.

I don't think he was wrong to want to kill Palpatine, a powerful Force user is never unarmed while they maintain a connection to the force.

Palpatine was hedging his bets that Anakin would complete his fall. He was just giving him that final nudge.

Word is he is dead. But since we didn't see a corpse they could bring him back if they wanted. The EU has brought people back from the dead in the past: Maul was cut in half but came back.

Very, very few know about Sidious' secret identity. Dooku did. Gunray didn't. I think Mas Amedda (the blue horned guy) knew?

There were a million new droids in ROTS. Magma Guards. Spider Droids. In those montage war sequences they showed all sorts of new droids.

Mace probably was going Dark when he beat Sidious.

about the jedi changing sides and siding with the droids - i meant siding right at the end when palpatine reveals himself as the dark lord. could the jedi have survived if they called the separatists and arranged a quick alliance? or was the republic's clones too strong by this stage for the jedi and droid armies to fight? i never got the picture if the droids were about to lose or if they still had a chance, but the leadership died?

We did see new droids, Grievous's Magma Guards.

yah true. i just read they were the most advanced droids the separatists had but 4 of them got smashed in less than a second from wall that kenobi caved in on them.

I normally wouldn't read anything related to Star Wars at all, much less the horrible "prequel" trilogy, but this made it worthwhile. I'm on part II, but five minutes into the first one I was failing to suppress laughter and I'm at work!

The Separatists were in an open alliance with the Sith, why would the Jedi think they could trust them any more than the Republic? As far as Mace and the few Jedi who knew Palps was a bad guy, the rot started and would probably end with Palps. Removing him and the Republic would be saved. By the third movie the game was over, the Jedi just didn't realise it.
