Star Wars Outbound Flight?

GalaxyClass1701

Captain
Captain
So I just finished reading this and I'm confused. After reading the Thrawn trilogy I thought that Outbound Flight and the Katana fleet were the same thing but in OBF there were only six Drednauts and not a whole fleet??

No, the Katana fleet was entirely separate from the Outbound Flight Project. Whereas the OBF Project was intended to explore beyond the edge of the galaxy, the Katana fleet was a prototype design of slave-circuited starships to reduce the number of personnel needed to crew the ships, and to become the basis for a new Republic navy.

Thats right thanks for clearing that up for me.

Interesting that the Katana Fleet isn't mentioned in the Darth Plagueis book since much of the novel involves the militarization of the galaxy under the influence of the Sith.

I'm reading that right now its very interesting.

The Katana fleet was lost sometime between 46 and 44 BBY. I haven't purchased Darth Plagueis yet. Does it cover that time period? If it does, then, yes, it is odd that the book would make no mention of the Katana fleet, considering how important it was to the balance of power in the galaxy even 9 years ABY.

The Plagueis novel begins 65BBy and ends immediately after Phantom Menace.
