Star Wars: Legacy of the Force opinions

Loved ROTS. Labyrinth of Evil I thought was plodding and tedious--but then, I'd say the same about all of Luceno's books after his first two. Dark Rendezvous was a fun read, but not particularly outstanding; it almost seemed lightweight after Shatterpoint and MedStar.

ROTS is good for a novelization. Labyrinth of Evil was a great bridge novel that set up ROTS and answered all the many questions the movie didn't, and it had a great ending battle sequence. Dark Rendezvous is actually one of my all time favorite Star Wars novels and I don't think it gets as much love as it should. A book starring Yoda is good enough for me, but I thought it was very well written. It's probably my favorite interpretation of Yoda and Dooku (who is presented as a 3 dimensional character for once) and it has a lot of interesting side characters as well, and lots of great action. It's my favorite Clone Wars novel, closely followed by Shatterpoint then Labyrinth.

I thought the Yoda book was a good, fast paced, and fun read. LOE was a good bridge novel between AOTC and ROTS, and it helped me understand ROTS a little better. I didn't find it boring at all.

As for the ROTS novelization, I didn't care for Stover's writing style. With lines like "This is what it feels to be Anakin Skywalker right now", that took me out of the story. Why not just describe his feelings without announcing them. The beginning was boring too. It was okay, but I'm not in the chorus that praises it. I do think it added some nice internal dialogue/character moments, particularly for Dooku, Anakin's gripes with being denied Master status also made more sense due to the novel, and Anakin got some nice characterization too.

I would recommend it, but at the same time it's not the greatest SW story ever written. I also recommend the follow up book, Dark Lord, written by Luceno. Really, LOE, ROTS, and DL play like a trilogy and I believe there is an omnibus with all three novels.
