Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - New Single Player, Story Driven Game

I am loath to say.

I say it through grinding teeth and bile in my mouth.

But EA delivered a good solid product.

Still doesn't make up for the last 7 years of neglect and mismanagement of the franchise.

It was ... fine. It felt like a throwback to fifteen years ago and played very much like Jedi Knight 3. This isn't a bad thing, but we know that games can be more than just a VERY on-the-rails single player narrative. When we have games like RDR2 that combine open worlds with compelling characters and narratives, it's hard to pat EA on the back for simply not whiffing it.

Speaking of compelling characters, it's unforgivable that a game that is just a SP experience had such a boooooorrrrrrrring protagonist. Give me Iden Versio any day over this bland bro of a Jedi.

Not every game has to be some big massive open world thing. I've also been working my way through the PS4 Spider-Man game, and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, and this is a nice change of pace from those.
Honestly, sometimes I get tired of every game feeling that it has to dump you into some massive insanely huge world. Sometimes it's nice to get something a bit more focused.

I like Cal so far.

What? It plays nothing like that game.

Third person over-the-shoulder lightsaber combat with jumping and force-based puzzles for level progression? Seems very similar to me. The combat mechanics differ substantially but they're very much in the same vein.

The game is awesome.

They should make a similar game but from the POV of a Sith, maybe Vader himself.

I think it would be good to have him in this style of game, where you basically play him becoming that powerful, coming to terms with the suit, learning to use the dark slde etc.

I'm sure everyone would enjoy it.

Except me. Because I do not like Vader-at all.

I'm closing in on the end of the game, and I'm loving the story so far. This and Battlefront II have given us the best SW video game stories we've gotten in a long time.

I finished up the game this morning, and I was very happy with the end.
Vader's appearance after the fight with Trilla was a surprise, but it was definitely an exciting way to finish it.
I was a little disappointed Vader killed Trilla, I thought maybe she'd change sides and join up with the Mantis crew.
I did not expect them to destroy the Holocron.
I was kind of hoping we'd get some kind of explanation for why Cal and Cere were not around during the Original Trilogy, but there's no sign of it at the end.

I just stumbled across a video for a song that the Mongolian rock band The Hu did for Jedi: Fallen Order. I hadn't heard anything about this until I found the video on EA's Star Wars Youtube channel. According to the video description they are singing in a language they made up just for the song.

The Hu are amazing. I didn't know they had done that song until after hearing them on the show radio. But, super incredible, unique, band.

EA actually surprised me in this game by proving they have a modicum of care for single player. Yes, it was single player by the numbers as the game substantially cherrypicked from the likes of Sekiro, Tomb Raider and Uncharted, but it was enjoyable enough and half a step in the right direction.

Squadrons on the other hand? Love it.

I have to admit I was hoping for a more Mass Effect like experience, but it was a solid single player experience.

With Fallen Order and Squadrons, EA are moving in the right direction. I'd bet that Disney gave them a swift kick in the ass and told them to stop making crap if they want to keep making Star Wars games.

I just hope they revisit the KOTOR setting at some point. I know it's not likely but I can always hope.
