Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

A few were. There were some doubters who didn't expect Episode I to live up to expectations and said so, but most Star Wars fans I knew and spoke to went into the first Prequel with an epic boatload of enthusiasm and excitement. Now: Episodes II and III? It wasn't uncommon at all for some people to go: "Episode I sucked, so why should the new movie(s) be much if any better?"

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It'll be interesting to see just how much of the movie remains practical when it's finished. We've heard directors talk a big game before about using more old school, practical effects (like Spielberg with Indy4), only to watch them insert huge amounts of CG in the final product anyway.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Okay, that little alien dude in the picture with Abrams is pretty cool. Though, this being Star Wars he's probably just a background player with no important role in the movie at all. Though I'm sure he'll get an action figure, I wonder if they'll develop a backstory for him in the novels or comics? What with the EU changing and all...

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'm betting he's probably just a background character, but I've already decided I want one as soon as the figure comes out.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'm sure he'll get his own comic book series and action figure like any good SW extra.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

By now he's probably already got his own slash fiction.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

This is Star Wars. He'll have at least two action figures, and one of them will be almost impossible to find thanks to mediocre retail distribution. ;)

The EU isn't "changing", it's gone. No more Ithorians; the character formerly known as Momaw Nadon is just a Hammerhead. No more Ponda Baba; he's back to Walrus Man.

The new guy may eventually get a backstory, but LFL has six films of backlog to (re)expand first.

As long as it doesn't look like the Hobbit movies, I'm good with whatever they do. Those damn films look like video games.

Good.

That's what the action figures were called.

The names always felt weird to me - they were always just Hammerhead and Walrus Man to me.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Don't forget Snaggletooth, Pruneface and Squid Head.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Meh... episodes 2-3 kinda killed my love for this subject.. this has to be hands down a redemption for me as a fan..and that's just to get me to the theater

Realistically speaking, I'm pretty sure a lot of that background stuff will find it's way back into canon to some degree or another.

It seems to me, the purpose of wiping the slate wasn't to remove all the background material so they can start over from scratch with Pig Guard #3's life story, but to free up any future stories from any direct obstruction.

That's exactly what it was about. I very, deeply and sincerely doubt that Walrus Man will no longer be an Aqualish named Ponda Baba and that Hammerhead has ceased to be a member of the Ithorian species with the name of Momaw Nadon. The overhaul of the EU hasn't wiped out as much as some of us seem to think.

well, everything that isn't contradicted onscreen or in the other media can be whatever you want it to be, can't it?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Like I've told fans in the past, if you don't like a particular aspect of the canon of either Trek or Wars then just ignore it and do your own thing. Until and unless the names of those alien species are changed and the new ones are spoken on the big and/or small screens then I'm going to adhere to the names we've learned and absorbed over the years.

I imagine the little details won't be changed as much as the big events post-ROTJ.
