Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

^
That's exactly what it was about. I very, deeply and sincerely doubt that Walrus Man will no longer be an Aqualish named Ponda Baba and that Hammerhead has ceased to be a member of the Ithorian species with the name of Momaw Nadon. The overhaul of the EU hasn't wiped out as much as some of us seem to think.

well, everything that isn't contradicted onscreen or in the other media can be whatever you want it to be, can't it?

I'd say that at this stage all of that stuff is in a quantum superposition type state, at least until someone directly "observes" it and collapses the wave function.

Basically, assume nothing for the time being.

Could they at least throw in Grand Admiral Thrawn, or is this too far ahead? And what about the clone emperor? Is this gonna have the vong as well??

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Quite a bit of the post-ROTJ Expanded Universe was like that. Thrawn, Mara Jade, the Solo twins I could get behind. The Vong and a giant moon crushing Chewbacca to death, not so much. Personally I'm glad they're rewriting and revising the events in the timeline after the Battle of Endor because there was just a huge amount of crap in it once you got past certain events.

What if the rewriting and revising ends up with similar, just different, crap?

If it does, it does.

It's out of our hands anyways. I'm just glad some of those story elements will be gone, whatever they're ultimately replaced with.

It's a risk I, for one, am willing to take. :techman:

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

They could introduce a race of time-traveling radioactive plants with plans of galactic conquest into the new EU sequence of events and it'd still be better than some of the junk we got in the previous novels and comics.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Even the beloved Thrawn Trilogy, while well-written, was littered with stuff that had me rolling my eyes. I'll happily throw the dice and hope that the new movies can do better.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah I didn't follow the EU that closely, but most of what I did hear about the storylines just never really felt like what those characters would do after ROTJ. Let alone feel like it even took place in the same universe as the OT.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I've said it several times now in various threads, but I'll say it again: the absolute BEST thing about wiping the slate with the EU is that from here on out they get to cherry pick only the best stuff from what came before and re-introduce it in a new form.

It's no different than the relationship the Marvel Cinematic Universe has with it's source material. They can drawn what they want, re-interpret it if need be (or they just have a better idea) and just ignore what they don't want. It's really the best of both worlds.

There's plenty of characters and concepts that can be farmed from the old EU and for the first time in years I'm really interesting to see where they're going with it.

This. Times ten.

wish they would wipe the 1-2-3 episodes, or at least re-edit it..put in more maul, down play jar jar, and fix 3s ending and that comical and ridiculous noooooooooo! From Vader.. as far as padme and Anakin chemistry goes..that's another story. Too bad they couldn't do some surgical work there

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The EU had started to go off the rails. I only read the first FotJ book before becoming disinterested.

How I read the Swarm War and Bount Hunter Wars trilogies I'll never know.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Hopefully the prequels and special editions have filtered out any need to explore origins and beginnings and old ground and they can just move forward with new stories in the Star Wars setting. Yeah, we have some old characters around but they can move in undefined directions with them. I'm hoping they resist the temptation to find some way to have the emperor, at least Palpatine, around.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'm still sticking with the theory that she's either a revised Jaina Solo or Han and Leia's daughter with a different first name. That would allow for her to possess greater Force powers since her mother is a Skywalker.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Is it December 2015 yet?
