Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'm just glad he saw the light and decided to come back

"Saw the light," more like saw the bucks. ;) Also he has 2 ex wives + a current girl friend, 4 grown children from 2 separate messages, and 3 grandchildren. All of those, "dependents," have got to be expensive.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It's Hollywood. Same difference.

If any of us were in Hollywood Homicide we'd be looking for a big project to make people forget it ever existed. :)

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Serkis is the only name I automatically recognized and knew, though I'd heard Driver mentioned before and seen pictures of the guy.

I guess I only know Serkis as Gollum. And while I like him as Gollum, it's hard to judge him as a real life actor when his entire body was transformed into a withered Hobbit monster.

He was good in Longford, though he was only in three scenes ( four if you count his voice heard on a cassette tape, five if you count appearing in a photograph ).

He's fantastic in Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

They could even re-use the dialogue from TESB.

"I love you."
"I know."

And then he charges into battle! Or something.
Except reverse the order of who says each line of dialogue.

Yeah, but that was already done in JEDI, when Han tells Leia "I love you" and she replies "I know", before shooting up some stormtroopers. So at this point, that exchange is done, in my opinion, and they need to write something new.

Yeah much as I'd like to think it was the story and Abrams that convinced him to return, it was much more likely to be the money and the fact he hasn't been in a successful movie in awhile.

Either way though, I'm just glad to see him back as Han. Much as I look forward to seeing Luke and Leia again, it just wouldn't have been the same without Han there as well.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Given how standoffish he's been about the SW franchise over the years it's a bit of a wonder that he's in Episode VII to begin with. He's never disliked the films to the extent Alec Guinness appeared to in his later years (Old Ben even went off on a small kid once if the story is true).

Alec Guiness didn't hate Star Wars. He actually got a kick out of playing a "space wizard". What or who he hated were the fans who basically stalked and harassed him.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I was thinking that Han bites the dust in 7, and Lando takes his place in the Rebel cause in 8 and 9.

I wonder what exactly they'll be rebelling against thirty-years after Endor? Cuts in their medicare and social security?

I don't know, even at this point Harrison Ford is well beyond the point of having to take a role for the money alone. I'm sure it's a great paycheck, but I'm not sure he'd agree to return to his most iconic role if the script was crap.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Oh I'm sure he made sure that the script was good and he had something really interesting to do. I just don't think that was the main driving factor.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Harrison has had one hit movie in the last decade, and even that one was widely panned by fans as being a huge disappointment. I'm sure a huge Disney paycheck played some part in his return to the Saga, plus it's Star Wars: even the "bad" ones are global blockbusters and finish their runs in the top-grossing movies lists. At this point he probably just wants another certified hit film to point to.

^
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Everything else has been a modest success at best or a total flop at worst.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Indiana Jones 4 was a very different beast. For some reason, Spielberg and Ford took part in it even though they hated the story that Lucas dictated. They must have been tied up in a massive contract where they HAD to the film no matter what.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

They both had been dying to make an Indy film for 19 years. I think they finally just caved in to Lucas' ridiculous story out of desperation

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I wonder if Harrison Ford may have agreed to do Episode VII only if they killed off Han Solo. I have this feeling that may be so.
Since he always advocated that Han die in the original trilogy, I'm sure Ford thought that he could definitely get what he wanted this time around. Wouldn't surprise me either. He's got a little negotiating power, after all.
