Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Oscar Isaac is the only name I recognize from the newcomers. (By the newcomers I mean the younger actors. Obviously I know who Andy Serkis is. :ouch:)

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Serkis is the only name I automatically recognized and knew, though I'd heard Driver mentioned before and seen pictures of the guy.

I guess I only know Serkis as Gollum. And while I like him as Gollum, it's hard to judge him as a real life actor when his entire body was transformed into a withered Hobbit monster.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

There are other photos of Carrie where she's laughing and looks terrific.

Hamill could probably rock a Guinness beard now :).

Serkis is a really good dark comic-dramatic actor: check out his performance as rock/pop star Ian Dury

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Andy Serkis played one of the crewmen of the ship that goes to Skull Island in the Peter Jackson King Kong, so he's had at least one non-CGI acting role in a megabudget film. I can't quite remember if he's one of the crewmembers that survives the encounters with Kong, but he's in the movie.

The only memorable thing about that movie is its length.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Andy Serkis' character in Kong memorably gets his head devoured by a giant slug.

I know Adam Driver from his role as Hannah's boyfriend on "Girls". Other than that, I don't recognize any of the "new" cast members other than Max Von Sydow.

And yes, maybe I'm seeing through "fan-goggles", but I think each of the Big Three looks phenomenal.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I forgot Max von Sydow. That makes two I recognize and one I know from name and some photos recently posted online.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Dune-->Von Sydow-->Star Wars.

I feel the circle is now complete :)

He was good in Longford, though he was only in three scenes ( four if you count his voice heard on a cassette tape, five if you count appearing in a photograph ).

I suppose if your fate is getting killed by a slug it helps if it's a giant one and it eats your head. Otherwise your descendants will just laugh uncontrollably each and every time you're mentioned.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Seems like it should be a pretty good cast. Most people seem to like Adam Driver in Girls, of course Max von Sydow is a friggin' legend. Serkis has been great in the mo-cap roles I've seen him in. The only other new cast members I'm familiar with are Domhnall Gleason, who played Bill Weasly in the last two Harry Potter movies, and John Boyega who John Boyega who was played Moses in Attack the Block. I don't remember Gleeson or Boyega specifically from those movies, but I didn't have any problems with any of their casts overall.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Not that we know of.

Of course: there's also been no mention of Frank Oz or Ewan McGregor, and an episode of the Saga without Yoda and Obi-Wan (alive or spectral) is pretty odd to comprehend. Who knows. I doubt the entire cast has been made public, Billy Dee or no Billy Dee.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'm sure Lando will show up, either in this movie or the next one. Abrams just hasn't revealed everything. This is his MO.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

AICN says they're still casting roles including a major female role (the oft rumored Obi-Wan's half-black daughter/grand-daughter role), so maybe theses are just the primary characters and Lando will just be a smaller role of a few scenes and thus not worthy of being there for the read-through.
