After all, why care about his journey if he's just going to run off a few decades later, live in a cave and become a bad guy?
I prefer to think he's going to run off, live in a cave, and turn into Gandalf.
Why can't Snoke be Luke? We have this supreme leader who is presumably CGI (played by Andy Serkis) this could be an illusion that Luke presents. At the end of the film Snoke is revealed to be Luke.
This is... in a word... awesome!!

As for Luke going evil, I find it very doubtful. I'm not going to say it's 100% impossible, but it just strikes me as fans digging for a big twist that probably doesn't even exist.
I really hope it isn't true as it would totally destroy the happy ending of the OT. I don't mind if things turned to shit later, but I'd really like to keep that everything in that ending exactly as it appeared.
The Legends stuff seemed to kind of go in that direction, with Luke's nephew Jacen also falling to the Dark Side, and then his descendant Cade also struggled pretty seriously with the Dark Side.As for Luke going evil, I find it very doubtful. I'm in the "make it entertaining" corner, whichever way they chose to go.
It could be the entire Skywalker clan that is destined to go to the dark side, not just Anakin.
I read that Luke had an academy and the Knights of Ren killed everyone in the Academy and Luke survived and went into exile.
Unrelated, but I can't help but think that the "It's true, all of it, etc" thing that everyone loves isn't in the film.
