Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

While I don't think the Hayden Christensen rumor is true, I actually would love for it to happen. Hayden is a better actor then what was shown in the prequels and I'd like for him to be redeemed a little bit.

Yeah as much as I never cared for how the character was written, I never had much of a problem with Christensen himself. You could always tell he was fighting to make the character work as much as it could, but with that awful and stilted dialogue he just never had a chance.

In fact I'd be totally up for an entire prequel-era standalone with Anakin and Obi-Wan... if it was actually written and directed a whole lot better.

I've been for the idea of Hayden, Ewan and CGI Yoda voiced by Frank Oz returning as Force Ghosts ever since Episode VII was announced. Without George's clunky direction new scenes between Hayden's Anakin and, say, Luke could be some of the most emotional scenes in the entire Saga with an older, more experienced and better-directed Christensen playing the father figure to Mark Hamill's aging Luke at a time in his character's life when there's obviously been a significant threat to his safety.

Face it, a lot of us knew it was a strong possibility that Hayden might return in some form in the Sequel Trilogy and if he actually does appear in one or two of the new films it'll be worth it just for the hot air and raw, unfiltered Nerdrage that his involvement will trigger in the fanbase.

LOL, I just had the funniest mental image of Hayden, Ewan, and Yoda as force ghosts replacing the hitchhiking ghosts at the end of the Haunted House ride at Disney World.

The cost of the purchase of LFL is being returned via all the Star Wars projects...and there are a lot of them. From Rebels to Battlegrounds, to Droid Tales, to The Force Awakens. Plus books, toys, clothing, all sorts of stuff.

They'll get their money back and then some. Probably before Rogue One comes out.

I summon all the internet memes to express my outrage in an appropriate manner: NO!

There, I think that did it :techman:

Also, with due respect to all, bringing Christensen back would be interesting and with the new Special Edition, it could a way to make it work.

I just wonder if Luke would commune with Anakin as a Force Ghost.

Yeah, Luke both saw and spoke with Obi-Wan's Force ghost in ESB and ROTJ. He also saw his father, Obi-Wan and Yoda in apparition form during the Ewok celebrations on Endor so we know he can both see and verbally communicate with the Force ghosts of deceased Jedi.

Of course he would. We've already seen Luke acknowledge Anakin's presence as a Force ghost in ROTJ.

That doesn't automatically he would sit and chat with him, like he did with Obi-Wan. Just that Anakin had been saved and returned to the Light side.

Or if Anakin would keep coming back if he is at peace and all. I don't think it is as clear cut as everyone think it is. Or maybe it is and I'm overthinking it ;)

In the old EU Anakin did come back at least once. He tried to apologies to Leia for all that he did. She wasn't having any of that and sent him back to the Force.

"Father, you were such a douche when you were Darth Vader.

I mean, come on. You let them BLOW UP MY HOME PLANET. You'd have never gotten a birthday present or HoloNet call if I'd known who you really were."

I grew up being taught that World War II ended with the death of Hitler and the destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There is a movement under way to revise the history. I learned this year about the complexity of what happened after the war. Of ethnic groups and political groups battling for control of regions of Europe devastated by the war. These groups had been manipulated by the major powers to their benefit, with the major powers pitting groups against groups. When the war ended, there was for years conflict. The situation became so volatile that some believed that a civil war might break out in Europe at any time. Though a situation like this is too complex for a space opera, I am not surprised that the war was not ended at the Battle of Endor. I am surprised, though, that control of the galaxy has not been decided thirty years after the battle. What has been preventing either side from gaining control?

As more details are released about this film, I am reading some fans reactions to it. Some are of the opinion that this film will be a recycling of elements from the original trilogy: a massive space weapon threatening the galaxy and a band of rebels attempting to destroy it. I hope they are wrong, that they are misinterpretating what has been said.

That's a good point, but I think it's too soon to make any judgments at all.

if they kill off Han fans will hate the movie

The older generations will KNOW that Ford wanted gone in ROTJ in 1983, so most will probably be expecting it from TFA - especially as it's pretty much common knowledge now, anyway.

Even older fans (60+) will accept it as "part of life" and part of movie tropes, especially compared to older films.

The younger generations (Gen Y and Gen Stupid) won't give two shits because "it's just that old man and old men die".

You don't really think any of that matters do you? All you're saying is that those of us who were spoiled already and seemingly don't care. Which of course isn't true the fans do care and it should be an emotional moment, whether a person has been spoiled or not.

I just hope they don't drop a bridge on him.

I remember Ford mentioning they didn't kill Han in RotJ because GL didn't think they could market 'Dead Han' toys.

I notice there are no Han figures in wave 1 or wave 2 of TFA figures...

(yes, among others)

Most of the bad acting in the prequels is attributable to bad dialogue and direction and not acting talent.

No. The original plan for ROTJ (the death of Han, Leia becoming the leader of her people, Luke as a Jedi etc) meant a further committment of additional movies for Lucas. At that point, he had pretty much had it with Star Wars in the face of divorce and the production problems he faced with ESTB. The ending we got was his attempt at resolution.
