Everything built into this assumptions assumes ultimately the New Republic doesn't suffer any reversals in the war. It might just be possible the dilema in the ST is that their gains are reversed by the First Order and Kylo Ren.
It would've been nice for Abrams dnd Kasdan to at least try to give us something new.
Is that really that different? The villain is a dark side Force user with a red lightsaber and a metal mask, just like the villain in the OT (in which the word "Sith" was never mentioned, by the way).I'd say they still are. One of our lead characters is a former Stormtrooper, another is a girl who lives on her own as a scavenger, the villain isn't a Sith at all but someone who only idolizes them, and the main story appears to revolve around the search for a missing Luke Skywalker. It would've been nice for Abrams dnd Kasdan to at least try to give us something new.
None of these concepts are very original if you have paid attention to the Expanded Universe. It would've been nice for Abrams dnd Kasdan to at least try to give us something new.

Yeah it's likely there's another super-weapon involved somehow, and we still have good guys fighting an Empire-style villain... but it's freakin Star Wars. How complicated does this really need to get? We kind of expect there's going to be some huge weapon or oversized threat in most of these movies, don't we? It's amazing to me that people can only focus on those things and ignore all the other great new stuff we're getting.
It's almost like... Poetry. As more details are released about this film, I am reading some fans reactions to it. Some are of the opinion that this film will be a recycling of elements from the original trilogy: a massive space weapon threatening the galaxy and a band of rebels attempting to destroy it. I hope they are wrong, that they are misinterpretating what has been said.
By all accounts though that's exactly what they're doing, recycling elements of the OT, the First Order has replaced the Empire, the Resistance replaces the Rebellion and the Knights of Ren replaces the Sith.
"Fear attracts the fearful" was terrific.I can't wait for the 'tone poem' commercials!

I'm confused. Thirty year old film stock looks better in 4K than ten year old CGI?
It is going to happen, and Ultra HD is the reason why. Reliance Media Works (formerly Lowry Digital) completed a 4k 16 bit restoration of Episodes IV-VI last year.
if they kill off Han fans will hate the movie

The older generations will KNOW that Ford wanted gone in ROTJ in 1983, so most will probably be expecting it from TFA - especially as it's pretty much common knowledge now, anyway.
Even older fans (60+) will accept it as "part of life" and part of movie tropes, especially compared to older films.
The younger generations (Gen Y and Gen Stupid) won't give two shits because "it's just that old man and old men die".
I hated the Star Trek reboots, but if I try to imagine it as generic space opera and not Star Trek, then the movies weren't really bad at all.

You don't really think any of that matters do you? All you're saying is that those of us who were spoiled already and seemingly don't care. Which of course isn't true the fans do care and it should be an emotional moment, whether a person has been spoiled or not.

OF COURSE it should be and very well might be an emotional moment. You said fans will "hate" TFA is Han is killed (and in an unsatisfactory manner). I gave reasons why fans will most likely be prepared and why older fans/moviegoers may very well expect it.
I won't "hate" the Star Wars franchise if Han dies in the new movie. I don't want him to be killed off, but if it happens (which is a strong possibility) then Han Solo had a pretty good run of four films out of the last seven and appearing in two of the three Trilogies. Harrison Ford wanted George to kill his character as early as Empire but Lucas refused to do so, and from the moment Ford joined the cast of the new film I'd wondered if part of the reason he agreed to come back was because J.J. and Lawrence Kasdan finally did what George didn't want to do about 35 years ago.
If Han dies, it'll be a very sad and poignant moment for me as a person who grew up with his character as part of my generation's pop culture identity and one of the most recognizable heroes of the big screen, but I won't be mad at the producers.
