Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Yeah, I saw one of those BB-8 displays when I stopped by my local Target on Force Friday, although when my mom and I walked by him he didn't react.
Today is my birthday, so I decided to get myself something fun and got the Funko Pop Rey and Finn we had at work. I might get some others later.

Hey, if you like the Funko Pop! figures and want more from the new movie you should check out your local GameStop if you have one in the area. GameStop is selling an exclusive Finn in Stormtrooper Armor figure.

I've got three or four Gamestops near me. I might have to check one out next time I'm going to get more Funko Pops.

They also have exclusives of Hoth Han, Hoth Chewie, R-3PO (or K-3PO, I forget which Hoth protocol droid they carry) and R2-B1 from The Phantom Menace. I haven't bought any of them but I see most or all of those on a regular basis alongside the other Star Wars Funko Pop! figures.

And people give Lucas crap over dialog? :)

Gamestop was once known as Funkoland years ago... or was that Funcoland?

Yeah I can't decide if Kylo sounds creepy and menacing in those clips... or just really bored and sleepy. Lol

Although I have faith in JJ and am sure within the context of the movie he'll sound a lot better.

Kylo...:wtf:, to me he sounds extremely bored and lifeless, I don't know, we'll see. Finn and the Trooper both sound good. I. Don’t. Know. What. To. Do! made me chuckle.

On the bright side, he'll probably get more lines of dialogue than Darth Maul had in both Episode I and all of that movie's theatrical and television trailers combined. ;)

If those are from talking dolls, do we actually know if that's Driver or Boyega? Isn't most of that sort or merchandise usually done by lesser known (cheaper) voice actors?

Kylo sounded a little mechanical, possibly due to the fact of his face being masked, or the recording process for the figure.

I didn't like all of the lines, but "Don't be afraid" was probably the one where I felt the most of what the character could be.

Finn's lines were interesting and fun. I'm hoping context of the film will better inform the characters. Right now, I find Kylo to be the most interesting, but that's just based upon what little we have seen,

The CommTech voice chips packaged with the 1999-2000 Episode I action figures used movie dialogue (and occasionally even cut lines that didn't appear in the actual film), but Hasbro hired soundalike voice actors to record the dialogue for most of the chips. I think only some of the droid figure chips (R2-D2 and the Battle and Destroyer Droids) used the actual sound effects heard in the movie.

Those definitely sound like they were taken from the film audio. Adam Driver has a very distinct voice that does usually make him sound kind of bored, stoned and petulant.

Which makes me wonder (and kind of dread) if Patrick Warburton is doing voices for the Stormtroopers. Several of those samples sound like someone doing an impression of him at a minimum.

Joe Swanson the Stormtrooper: "Freeze, Resistance dirtbag! Now stand still while I roll over there and put these magnetic binders on you!

I said stand still! Hey, get back here!!"

Mark Hamill almost died filming the movie...

but this was filming for the NEXT MOVIE. which means Luke doesn't die in EP7! Woo hoo!

Even at the tender age of 12 (or so) the voice acting was passable, at best on the Commtech. I think Qui-Gon's might have been the worst but that might be due to Liam Neeson's distinctive voice.

Regardless, there must be so sort of contract thing with it, because I always thought it was weird that lines from the movie could not be used. :sigh:

Darth Maul's three different CommTech figures probably had more combined dialogue than the actual character did throughout the entire film.

I remember those Comm Tech chips, I have a whole box of them somewhere. Couldn't tell you what they sounded like though, because I didn't care enough to allow myself to get screwed into buying the chip reader. If I recall correctly, it looked exactly like a giant freaky Lady Bic razor though.

Anyway on a side note, it occurs to me from Finn's dialogue that he may have taken his name from the first two letters of his Stormtrooper ID number, FN2187. The last four digits of course being an obvious homage to Leia's cell number from A New Hope.

I wonder if we'll meet his brother, FN1138.
