Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Plus, Obi-Wan in ANH got some nice and sharp lightsaber swings and attacks in against Vader before he sacrificed himself. Alec Guinness was wearing some pretty long and bulky robes in the original movie and the lightsaber duel in the film was pretty nice considering Obi-Wan's advancing age and the fact that Vader was now a cyborg whose near-fatal injuries on Mustafar had left him little more than a charred and broken husk of a man.

To be honest, I always thought Obi-Wan VS Vader in ANH was a crappy fight, especially compared to Luke's fights with Vader.

I was hoping he'd wear the traditional Jedi brown robes, not white... also that costume looks way too thick and stiff. How could he have a proper lightsaber duel in those clothes?

Nah, I kinda like the idea of Luke having his own special version. Not to mention that we already saw more than enough of the brown Jedi robes in the prequels.

Didn't they get the Raid guys to choreograph fights? If that's the case, I bet we'll get some nice fight scenes instead of the contemporary dance numbers we got in the prequels.

Okay, after a lot of hunting and reading, I finally saw the image of Luke. It looks good. But why are there so many "removed at the request of Disney" things around? Seriously, Disney, who cares? It's a photo. It will get people excited. People are still going to see this movie in DROVES anyway, and it could create a new box office record.

Lighten up and let people see Luke. Jeez.
Not to mention the fact that he's just standing in front of some lights, or are those 3D scanners? So it doesn't even tell us anything about where in the movie he'll appear. I could see if the picture contained some kind of spoiler, like him on Jekku with Rey and Finn or him at the Resistance base or something.

It's pretty hard to not think that--particularly post-prequels where it was only supposed to be 20 years or so since Episode III. There's a lot of explanation spackle to patch holes like that either way but it is a noticeable difference.

I remember reading that when Star Wars was seen by people in China that they went "WTF is that" with the fight scene because it was so slow compared to local films.

I've never really had a problem with their fight. It might seem slow-paced next to the frenetic lightsaber battles in the prequels, but next to the ESB battle it doesn't seem much slower at all to me. And there are a few moments where they're actually swinging those blades pretty fast.

If there's anything that might be a bit "boring" about it it's the fact it just takes place in one small section of corridor, with not much variation.

Re: Pegg sounding board;

EVERY bloody thing I'm hearing about this film is positive!

Compare JJ's attitude there in that piece to Lucas' gaggle of yes men, all being herded by that king sized douche, Rick McCallum. JJ is taking advice from people he KNOWS know SW, rather than his own ego.

Jesus, I didn't think I could be more pumped for this!!!

The 6" Black Series figures of Finn, Rey, BB-8, Chewbacca and the First Order Stormtrooper (in his non-convention-exclusive, regular packaging) hit both Facebook and the collecting websites earlier this evening. Rey and BB-8 are packaged together in the same box, and appropriately so for all sorts of reasons.

Not the least of which is Hasbro would have been insane and idiots to try to sell a droid figure that small for $20 or more, and one that may or may not have any real articulation to replicate his fluid and dynamic movements as seen in the film.

Rick McCallum is a nice person.

Not according to the the people I know who've had dealings with him.

Secondly, if there's one person besides Lucas who should shoulder the blame for the shitfest that was the PT it is second in charge and head knee capper and enforcer, Rick McCallum.

HE was basically the Darth Vader/Maul that Lucas sent out to do his bidding and ride herd over the artists and technicians who MAY have just had a chance of offering alternative ideas and suggestions that could possibly have raised the PT above the level of pop culture joke it now occupies.

Or as RLM so succinctly states,

"Why is it ALWAYS Ricks?!?"

:wtf: :wtf:

I don't think I'll ever understand the hate for the prequels, I had no expectations going in and I wasn't disappointd. Nor do I understand all the praise for JJ Abrams without seeing the final product of his work.

Who's been praising JJ's work on TFA? No one that I've seen. 'Bout all I've seen is people saying that they like what they've seen so far, and that they're excited about the film. Hardly the same thing.

Yeah it's definitely encouraging to hear how much time and care they've taken in getting the story to be as good as they could possibly make it. Whether it was bringing in Kasdan in the first place, or using the filming break from Ford's injury to fine-tune the story, or getting input from diehard fans like Pegg.

If nothing else, it's clear they aren't just trying to coast on the SW name, but want to make something that will actually be really good and live up to the OT.

Yeah, the Prequel hate does gets way out of hand with some fans. There are more than a few things I don't like about Episodes I, II and III and I'd have done written and filmed some things a lot differently, but I've known about those flaws for ten to sixteen years now and have come to accept those failings. Some fans seem to spend every breath talking about the Prequel Trilogy by mentioning how they should be tried for war crimes for urinating on our collective childhoods and destroying the progress of civilization or something. Sometimes it's tongue-in-cheek and those fans are using humor to get their dislikes across and that's fine, but many times it's not and you have to wonder how seriously some people take fictional movies with CGI aliens and farting pack animals.

Not liking them is one thing and there's some serious and ridiculous crap in those films, but some people should try to keep things in perspective. They're movies, and George's (and now Disney's) movies, not public domain or classical works of art hanging in a major museum. Don't like them? Don't watch them.

Fun fact: not everything in the OT is a moment of high art or dramatic excellence. ;)
