For all the complaints about CGI it allowed Lucas to make his movies with a lower budget creating a higher profit margin. Now the budget is reportedly twice what it was before thererfore making it harder to make a profit. Which is really a recent trend for Disney nowadays, they spend tons of money on their movies and rarely blow out the box office.

So I am in the lounge at Abu Dhabi Airport, waiting for my flight to Chicago, and on every monitor they are running the trailer and clip of Harrison Ford at the Panel discussion. Guess they do have NerdGasms here, also. Very cool and not something I expected!.
They also have the benefit of being much closer to Tatooine.

Explain. Maybe I hang out in the wrong circles, but most of the friends that I have (both online and in real life) prefer real stuff to CGI. There is often a lament in one circle about the overreliance on CGI and they are by no means the "old guys" or "Gen-Xers" (whatever that means. Hate that generation label garbate).
Maybe I was ahead of the curve, but the constant cry I have heard, especially since the PT, is for more practical effects.
Anyone else wonder why Mark Hamill still has THE BEARD? Watched the complete panel today. They say they have a rough cut of TFA already so why is he still sporting the beard he said he hated so much during filming? Pick up shots? Reshoots? He can't be in ROGUE ONE because it's set BEFORE A New Hope......right?

Promotional tours and any last-second pick-up shots would be my guess. "Hey, grow the beard again because we want you to look like Luke does in the new movie! I guarantee it'll be worth the time and trouble."
And for all we know, Mark could have already shot a couple of scenes for Episode VIII and they're already in the bag and ready to be edited into the next film? Mark could have filmed more footage than will actually be seen in The Force Awakens, and with Episode VIII scheduled for May 2017 the timeframe to get the next movie shot could be pretty sped up compared to how long it took to film both the Original and Prequel Trilogies.

Which is a big part of why I think Mark filmed much more than what will actually be seen in Episode VII. I doubt they'd have had him get into shape and grow the full, grizzled Jedi Master beard for just one or two minutes' worth of footage at the very end of the film. He may well have filmed other scenes as Luke but they won't be seen until Episode VIII is released in 2017.
Yeah, I can see him not being around in the beginning, but showing up and having a good deal of screen time in the third act. I really hope we get a Luke/whatever-his-name-is lightsaber fight near the end. its not like anyone else in the movie is going to be up for a big lightsaber fight, unless Leia has had jedi training like in the EU or something. Even if some of the new people are force sensitives, I don't see them having the skill to take on the big bad guy in a lightsaber duel. It would be awesome to see Luke fight, especially in a bit more energetic way then the OT fights he was in.
I liked Luke's lightsaber combat skills in the OT, especially in Jedi when he'd had an extra year to study the Force, construct his new weapon and become more agile and focused. Empire's battle scenes made perfect sense for a young man who'd never been in such a prolonged and heated lightsaber clash with an opponent and whose overconfidence in his own powers and abilities to defeat Vader led to his own defeat and near-demise.

I totally agree with this. It felt like actual knights fighting, slow and strategic. And the only frantic moment was when Luke jumped out of the shadows to attack Vader in the Emperor's throne room. That just didn't feel fake and choreographed. It was just raw emotion.
The fights in the PT are just over-choreographed and flashy. I didn't like that at all. And Yoda jumping around like crazy... ugh. How idiotic. Made him lose all his dignity he had in Empire and Jedi.
Somewhat different scenarios. On Bespin, Vader was clearly not out to kill Luke, but to turn him. Had Vader truly wanted him dead, he would have been. It wasn't until Luke's outburst of rage in the Emperor's throne room over Endor that he ever truly had the upper hand....so to speak.
It wasn't Luke's pride that lost him that first battle, it was his unwillingness to abandon his attachments to his friends and rushed to face Vader before he was ready.
The duel on Mustafar however was a drawn out clash of two battle hardened sword masters in their prime and could have gone either way. But yes, in the final stroke, it was Vader's pride that was his undoing.
All that said, I do generally like the less flashy style of the OT sabre fights, from a purely aesthetic standpoint.
Annie was too impatient to simply go around Obi-Wan. He had to gymnasticate over him in the most ridiculous way possible. Got caught up in the moment, and all.
