Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

It'll be nice to see where the Empire/First Order really stands once we see the movie.. we sure have seen the aftermath of some pretty big battles in the trailers including the Falcon flying into the internal structure of yet another Super Stardestroyer that crashed on a desert planet.

Its a Nerd Nitpick, but that is definitely not a super stardestroyer on Jakku in the trailer, its a regular Star Destroyer. People seem to forget that the regular SD is gigantic all by itself. A SSD would have been a lot bigger, and both the normal and super Star destroyers look very different, even if they share a few of the same design elements.

Photo analysis showed that the upside down SD that the Falcon flies into is a Super Star Destroyer. Which would be separate from the right-side up SD we see at the beginning of the second trailer.

Sorry to nitpick your nitpick but you're wrong.

This is a normal (probably Victory class) Star Destroyer:

This, due to the amount of engines it has, is a Super Star Destroyer:

If you follow it along, it also seems to be lying on the ground fairly flat, while the regular regular Star Destoryer is at a pretty steep angle. It also seems to have broken apart a fair amount, compared to the Star Destroyer which seems to be pretty much in tact.

Seeing these pictures i wonder why these have not been picked clean by Junkers and scrap metal traders.. 20 years or so should be plenty of enough time to even dismantle a Star Destroyer and sell whatever tech survived the crash.

Then again we would not have gotten this awesome shot in the trailers ;)

I guess it's a good thing that this Star Destroyer didn't crash on Tatooine. Jawas would have stripped it down to its basic framework within a few short months and then cannibalized what was left into spare parts for their Sandcrawlers. :)

Planets in the SW galaxy must be exceptionally sturdy to be able to survive a crash by starships that large. IIRC, the Auriga laid waste to a good portion of Earth in Alien Resurrection, and that ship was a damn sight smaller...seems to me that a Star Destroyer would obliterate any planet it crashed into.

I think that's a full size Imperial Class Star Destroyer...

Yep. the Victory Class star Destroyer is smaller, and has wingish things on the side, and a squarish segment sticking out of the bridge tower.

I'll admit to being wrong about the ship the falcon is flying through. I just assumed it was the same SD, but paying closer attention (and with a screen cap instead of in motion) its definitely a SSD.

It's a regular-sized SD, as opposed to a Super Star Destroyer that Vader uses in Empire. I don't know the classification.

I did not like (as much) the two shots right after "This Christmas" in the trailer. The X-Wings flying seems more video-game like. A similar shot in the first teaser had more weight to it, and the perspective was similar what we had of the X-Wings zooming down the trench. Also, notice how Poe's helmet shakes on as he say woohoo. Reminds me of a certain scene where a kid wearing an over-sized helmet says "woohoo" in The Phantom Menace

I believe that the figure standing under the First Order flag is Domhall Gleasons' general. if you magnify it and compare it to the leaked picture of Gleason as the General, it's as close as you can get. Also I believe Phasma is next to him (screen right).

Is that Luke's hand/ saber that falls when Luke winds up on the weather vane under Cloud City? They never do a close-up, but I assumed it was debris, a way for the filmmakers to illjstrate how high up he was.

That would be an Imperial-Class Star destroyer. An Imperial-II class SD, technically. The Imperial-II version has a few cosmetic differences, but is surprisingly (for me, at least) not an EU creation because the Imperial-II was seen in Episode V (and probably VI). I never actually noticed it before, but the differences are clear once you know what to look for. Looking at pictures of both types, the Jakku SD is definitely an Imperial-II type. Of course the new movie could call it whatever it wants, but until they give an overriding statement the crashed normal SD is an Imperial-II.

What? You thought Jakku was always a desert planet? That's what two giant starships will do to your ecosystem.

How many planets must be laid to dust until we learn, people? How many more?

Yep, that's a full Imperial class.
If it were a Victory class, the bridge would have a sort of forward extension, and there'd be some extensions on the sides of the hull. (If they went by Lucasfilm Archives) :)

One of the best parts of that screencapture is the crashed T-65 X-Wing from the Original Trilogy era. Even Mark Hamill said he didn't notice it at first when he was recording his voiceover work for the second trailer.

Two relics of the OT partially buried in sand on a remote desert world. It's one of the most atmospheric shots in any Star Wars movie in decades.

Yeah that tends to happen when you take out the Top Two leaders of a regime + an immense battlestation and one of their giant command battleships (on top of who knows how many other capital ships) all in one battle.

Not to mention this all happening a few years after Palpatine decided to dissolve the Imperial Senate which up to that point had been what was holding his empire together, and replaced it with basically a bunch of feudal lords only loyal to him with a super weapon being the only thing to keep the empire in line through fear, which was destroyed a few days at most after coming online.

Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if the Empire had been starting to fracture even before Endor.

Even the scavengers have moral codes

They probably left stuff so that it makes a cool sunset image :D

The junkers are probably too busy stripping the Super Star Destroyers, or making off with the smaller wrecks in what looks like it was a massive battle. They clearly missed an X-wing though.

Hard to tell if the x-wing was salvaged for parts.

The trailer really hooked you with this now iconic image. Can't wait for all new iconic imagery to follow!
