Good, vintage stuff! Funny, though, the only ones who look like anyone are Chewie, R-2 and C-3PO. Did they not have stills of the other actors, do you suppose?

In all seriousness, one of the more difficult aspects of a artistic representation is aging a person realistically. I think the artist did a good job with the poster, but I think we are so used to seeing Hamil unshaven (no beard) that the beard distorts the whole look, and just doesn't look right to our eyes.

I actually am not an artist either, and am sad I cannot see the world that way either.

I prefer to write and work in words, but also work in terms of how people think and respond to the world.

I think although I'm not sure the ROTJ artwork was for the British release of the THX 1994 VHS boxes. I think I read that in an issue of Star Wars galaxy, a brief 90's magazine from Topps.

You're right. I own those videos and they have that art which has been mixed in with those special edition posters.

Pulling off a good likeness can be incredibly tricky, especially if you don't take shortcuts. More than once, I've labored over something and it just. Won't. Look. Right. It's incredibly frustrating, especially when you can't figure out what the problem is (which happens more often than you'd think).

Adding facial hair to a portrait to make a character look believably older and more mature isn't always as easy as it sounds. It takes more than just adding a beard. You also need to tweak facial wrinkles and creases and add little bits of texture to skin and eyes to make a face look significantly older than it once was, and there's a fine line between pulling it off and making the drawing look comically absurd.

BTW Gary Whitta is no longer writing the spin off with Gareth Edwards. Not the first time this has happened, as Michael Ardnt was the original writer for VII and Leigh Brackett of course wrote an original draft for ESB (Which ultiametly was mostly unused).

It's great that the Brackett draft finally made it out to the general public. For a really long time it was merely rumored to be in some obscure library somewhere in the Southwest. I wondered if it was still there or if someone had stolen it.

Yep, so for at least some scenes in the new film Luke Skywalker will be going full Grizzly Adams with the Old Ben look, which is something I'm looking forward to since he was a young guy barely out of his teens during the Original Trilogy and an aging Jedi Master once trained by Obi-Wan and Yoda should probably have the look of a Jedi Master, especially if he's been in hiding for a while.

Yeah, it's nice to see him take some more influence from Ben/Obi-Wan (The other being the lightsaber, which although Palpatine notes is "much like his fathers" the handle is clearly similar to Obi-Wan's and not Anakin's). Although the blade is green (I think because blue didn't work with the daylight scenes-most of the lightsaber stuff in the first two films was studio bound).

That's assuming we get the old three back. If not, and its just a story with younger actors playing the trio, there isn't much to be done, except to at least try to not be as stupid as some of the prequel stuff. In this scenario, just not having a lame comedy relief character like Jar Jar is about the best that could be hoped for.

Ever heard of the wise fool? That's what Jar Jar was (and is.) It wasn't Lucas's fault that most people are culturally fucked up and didn't know what that concept/kind of character was or is. But, I guess years of cynicism is hard to wash away.

I always suspected my irrational dislike of Paul Blart: Mall Cop was secretly motivated by intellectual laziness and my ignorance of Renaissance inspired tropes, but I'd never heard the criticism given voice until now. I am suitably shamed.

Here, I thought Jar Jar was just a dumb slapstick character meant to entertain kids, but he was actually teaching us all a lesson about overcoming our cynical worldview. Every time he burped or said "exsqueeze me," it was like an arrow penetrating my hardened heart and showing me a more enlightened path.

The concept art shows that Vader's burnt out suit from Endor is featured (or was originally intended to be featured) in the film, looked upon by another cyborg character.

Also, Carrie Fisher's daughter is playing young Leia in a flashback, so Vader can be in that.

Darth Vader reappearing in the Saga in a flashback sequence is a rumor that's been around for a while now, and makes a certain amount of sense. Anakin Skywalker either as his original self or as Darth Vader was in every previous film in the franchise and if Hayden Christensen wasn't asked to reprise the role as Anakin's Force ghost interacting with Luke then having flashback scenes of Vader during the timeline of the Original Trilogy or even earlier would be the next most logical way of getting the character into Episode VII without violating any continuity.

I'm all for it. The listing of that toy was no surprise, though, because even if Vader didn't make an appearance in Episode VII it's just good business sense to keep a Darth Vader toy on the market at all times since he's the most iconic and popular symbol of the Star Wars universe.

My only gripe with the idea is that all six previous films have a certain structure: the films themselves all take place within a very short amount of time. I'm not referring to the time between the films, I'm talking about the films themselves. The structure is rigid and constricted. None of them have flashbacks.

In fact, producer Rick MacCallum was worried about actually showing Anakin's dream in RotS because dreams have never been shown in the films themselves before.
