Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Well, some elicit a smile from me. At least the ones that *seem* genuine. As they say, your mileage may vary.

GoT's Red Wedding was my introduction to this recent phenomena, IIRC. I think these recordings are most effective when it's a truly WTF?! moment. Me and my partner ought to have done a video each, given we watched it in separate locations simultaneously, with neither of us having a clue what we were in for.

I'll give you my reaction without the need for a camera. (Who'd really wanna see my mug anyway? LOL!)

Right off the bat, the teaser trailer for Ep VII looks like a fucking fanfilm. From the lone, unhelmed, black stormtrooper out in the desert, to the lightsaber with light hand guards, that screamed "fanfilm". And with no Disney or Lucasfilm logos herading it, it only reinforced the "fanfilm" vibe.

And then, the astromech head on a fucking beachball? Ok, that screamed, to me: "great, some asshole did a fanfilm parody, and was clearly influenced by Dark Star."

The Falcon footage looked nice, but I don't like the new X-wing fighters at all.

Funny, innit? (nigh, ironic?) I can like/love the new Enterprise for the new Abrams films, but I do not like the new Xwings for Star Wars VII: The Fanfilm Awakens at all.

Other than the slightly different way the wings open up, they look like pretty much the same X-Wings to me.

And I've seen plenty of fan films, but the acting is never as good and convincing as what Boyega shows in that brief shot.

I will agree the medieval lightsaber could be interpreted as a bit "fanfilmy", but it still looks a helluva lot cooler than it has any right to.

What fan films have you been watching that looks anything that good, seems like an hyperbolic statement Sci fi fans tend to conjure.

Honestly I thought I'd been duped by a fake trailer also until the beachball droid(That showed some budget). For some reason the guy standing alone in the desert did look like some kind of parody. I thought it was going to be a joke about how there are hardly any black people in star wars.

Still the worst part of the trailer is the crazy follow the Falcon camera angles and the X Wings flying a foot over the water. Yeah its supposed to be cool but it just makes everything feel more fake.

Yeah, while I haven't watched any of the reaction videos, I'm sure at least some of them are genuine. I know that when I watched the teaser for the first time (alone in my bedroom, no camera or audience) I did at least three "shaking my fist in the air" gestures.

Ummm....okay. Alrighty then.

I'm pumped for the film.

I'm just hoping that, as we get closer to Dec. 15th 2015, we don't have a retread of "The Phantom Menace" and get different trailers seemingly every other week giving us new footage....which is basically showing us the movie and setting us up for disappointment since the trailers for that 1999 film showed us the best parts (or hinted at a possibly better film that would expand on the footage we already saw).

If John Boyega - 'the black stormtrooper' that people seem to refer him as - is the lead of this new trilogy, I'm definitely for it. The fact that Lawrence Kasdan helped with the script should lead this film somewhat in the right direction.

More than likely he and Daisy Ridley - 'the white speeder girl' - with have a little 'something something' going on since the previous trilogies had their romantic drama aspects. Of course, the Han/Leia was more entertaining and less grating than the Anakin/Padme romance.

What we're seeing is a teaser. I'm sure post-production is still going on. If we remember the Abrams teaser for Trek 2009 all we got was a few close-ups of engineers welding bits of the Enterprise together....and that wasn't even in the final film!

Totally agree. I even thought the trailer was another fan film pawned off as a totally legitimate Episode 7 trailer.

Well I suppose if you haven't been following the news and had no idea what John Boyega looked like.....

But that just seems really strange and unlikely to me, especially for anyone who regularly visits SW threads in scifi message boards.

Regardless, seeing his face should have been a big tip-off that this wasn't just another fan-created trailer. Which is what it sounded like people here were suggesting.

And he's actually been rumored to be a former Stormtrooper for quite awhile. At least on all the sites I've been reading the last few months (MakingStarWars, StarWars7news, StarWarsUnderworld, etc).

I'm totally fine with the revamped X-Wing design as seen in the teaser and the earlier J.J. Abrams video where he stands next to one of them. I guess my only dislike would be that the astromech droid socket is no longer directly behind the canopy, or if it is then it's no longer visible, but other than that it's awesome to see X-Wing fighters return to the Star Wars universe after all these decades.

While I liked the ARC-170 Republic Starfighters seen in Episode III they just weren't the same.

Yeah I miss not having the visible R2 units, but then they always seemed pretty limited in what they could actually do back there (since their little arms could only reach back so far to fix anything). And I'm guessing there's just no story need to have R2 or some other droid tag along with an X-wing pilot in this movie.
