Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah, there's some not-so-subtle racism being posted over on Facebook about Boyega in Stormtrooper armor. They completely overlook the obvious Spaceballs "comb the desert" reference and go straight for the "hey, the Empire has black Stormtroopers" meme.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Absolutely love the shot of the Falcon. Felt like I was on a roller-coaster!

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I wonder if we'll see any alien stormtroopers like the one in the book Survivor's Quest.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Seemed like a lot of fan wank and CGI to me. The Empire is still around...how original, JJ.
i find your lack of faith disturbing...
Indeed. Getting rather tired of the "LOL BLAME JJ" campaigns.

Actually:
George Lucas turned over the story treatment for Episode VII (as well as for VIII and IX) to Disney chairman Bob Iger around the time Lucasfilm was sold to Disney in October 2012.[20] The treatment was written by Michael Arndt,[21][22] who was also hired to write the screenplay.

I know we all like to rage on the anti-Abrams folks, but you are aware that JJ had Arndt taken off the script and redid the story from the ground up right?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The angry electrical "crackling" effect of the villain's lightsaber is a nice and a new touch we hadn't seen before outside of perhaps a video game.

Are you thinking of the unstable lightsaber crystals from The Force Unleashed?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Maybe so. It's been a while since I've played either game, but yeah, that sounds about right.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I thought all stormtroopers were human due to the empire having a low regard for aliens.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Survivor's Quest is during the post-Palpatine Imperial Remnant specifically with a faction of the Empire founded by aliens.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Nothing I've seen or read thus far regarding SW episode VII has me wanting to see it. I will say, I have not seen the trailer released today. Abrams may pull off an okay first entry but I am confident he will FUBAR the followup. Disney (with JJ as a happy accomplice) is going to transmogrify SW into an ad nauseam bit of soulless wigetry.

Just venting my opinion because Abrams toxic chokehold on cherished pillars of my youth saddens me.

I take it you don't like the current Trek Abramsverse?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

There have been a ton of analysis of the trailer all over the internet, but I found the io9 one to be the most interesting.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I like what I see in this trailer so far. I'm not big on that ridiculous new Sith lightsaber, but it's Star Wars, so it is what it is. I just hope the story and acting is as good as the visuals.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I don't know about this. It looks too...Star Trek :p

The all-over-the-place shots of the Falcon do have that nu-Trek feel. Still a great little sequence.

The crossbeam gives it a medieval, broadsword-y look. I dig it.

I like the hilted lightsaber too. It's those differences that make them interesting, like "who's the guy using it and why did he go with that option?".

The hilt might keep one's hand from being cut off ;). A hilt is there for (basically) catching & stopping the other sword.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I loved the teaser. It didn't show much, but it got me excited. I just started grinning when the X-Wings showed up, and I had goosebumps when the Falcon appeared. The villain's lightsaber was a bit surprising when I first saw it, but I don't dislike the look, although I wouldn't want it to be the standard design. Overall, while I'd have liked to see a bit more, I think that was the point. This teaser was great, and the over year long wait for the movie is going to go by really slowly.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah I have to admit the medieval lightsaber does look a helluva lot cooler in action that I expected.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Loved the teaser but I'm dying to see the Big Three. Only part I don't like the cruficix-saber.

Seeing X-Wings buzzing right over an ocean brought a smile to my face; the Falcon doing an insane loop just over the surface of Not-Tatooine had me grinning ear to ear :D

And I can't wait to buy a ball-droid figure!

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Sorry, I'm just not so easily excited.
Espeically by a shot of some sand and a random black guy. Give me a quick shot of Han & Chewie in the cockpit, Luke with his lightsabre, R2 & 3PO arguing etc, until then I'm not really interested. There's nothing in that you wouldn't just see in some Star Wars PC game trailer.

Eh. To each their own. Whatever hovers one's speeder. I personally would have tossed in a few more images and made it a little bit longer, but for what it is it's an effective teaser.
Not saying I think the film will be bad, not at all. Just I suppose I was expecting a "teaser trailer" akin to the recent Jurassic World & Avengers 2 ones. This really isn't is it, it's like a teaser teaser trailer.
Simply my feeling was mainly "hm, is that it?"

Kasdan and Abrams did do a re-write however they did not re-do the entire story from the ground up.

Well, I haven't seen the one for Jurassic World yet, but I wouldn't classify the trailer for Avengers: Age Of Ultron as a teaser. It was pretty much a full-on trailer. It was incredibly awesome, yes, but I feel like it was a different thing.
