Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It sounds like Cumberbatch.

If I saw that X-Wing scene in a PC game trailer, I'd be like, "This is a game????"

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Daisy Ridley's Volleyball Droid :) is going to be an awkward-looking little action figure when the movie premieres, but they'll sell a metric ton of him because cute and because new astromech droid.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Also: X-Wings with recognizable Rebellion helmets and flight suits.

:adore:

I'm a nine-year-old boy all over again.

I have to urge to see which theater is showing Jedi.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Sorry, I'm just not so easily excited.
Espeically by a shot of some sand and a random black guy. Give me a quick shot of Han & Chewie in the cockpit, Luke with his lightsabre, R2 & 3PO arguing etc, until then I'm not really interested. There's nothing in that you wouldn't just see in some Star Wars PC game trailer.

Who says we didn't see Luke with his lightsaber?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Dismey is doling out the interesting pieces at a steady clip to maintain interest over the long haul till the films release. I expect they consider classic character reveal it's own big thing, whereas the trailer will get attention regardless.

Eh. To each their own. Whatever hovers one's speeder. I personally would have tossed in a few more images and made it a little bit longer, but for what it is it's an effective teaser.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Seemed like a lot of fan wank and CGI to me. The Empire is still around...how original, JJ.
i find your lack of faith disturbing...
Indeed. Getting rather tired of the "LOL BLAME JJ" campaigns.

Actually:
George Lucas turned over the story treatment for Episode VII (as well as for VIII and IX) to Disney chairman Bob Iger around the time Lucasfilm was sold to Disney in October 2012.[20] The treatment was written by Michael Arndt,[21][22] who was also hired to write the screenplay.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

It takes some serious balls and confidence in the film's quality to not show at least one brief glimpse of Luke or Han or even Chewie roaring. Disney, Lucasfilm and J.J. must know what they're doing, and as somebody else said this is far from the last trailer over the next 12 months. We'll all get a taste of the things we want most to see.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I rather liked the trailer. The lens flares weren't too bad, though I thought the hilted lightsaber was too much of a gimmick. If I didn't know any better I would say it was becoming a running gag to differentiate Sith sabers.

The only other thing I would have liked to have seen was just one or two more characters that have been new additions to the Star Wars-verse.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The angry electrical "crackling" effect of the villain's lightsaber is a nice and a new touch we hadn't seen before outside of perhaps a video game. I like it. Different, yet recognizable.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The crossbeam gives it a medieval, broadsword-y look. I dig it.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The Millennium Falcon flies again.

At a certain point after 1983 I never thought I'd see it again.

Sheer beauty.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The only character ship in the series.

I'm curious as to the state of the Galaxy after 30-35 years. While there are familiar patterns, we don't know the situation. Remember that in the Attack of the Clones teaser it was assumed that the Clones were the bad guys because they looked like Stormtroopers. And even in promotional materials before the film came out, it was Dooku backed up by a line of Clone Troopers, while Mace Windu would have a line of Jedi.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Not exactly what I was expecting/hoping for (some familiar character, perhaps), but it was still pretty good for a teaser.

Definitely the best part of the teaser. :techman:

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

And, what I told myself was "Han Solo is piloting that ship!"

(Of course, it could also be Leia....)

Overall, I liked it. I'm eager to see how John Boyega is utilized.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Funny how many people feel it necessary to mention the skin color of the fellow in the stormtrooper gear instead of just saying "the guy in the stormtrooper suit".
