Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Well Leia looked quite different just between ANH and ROTJ, so the fact she looks different yet again 30 years later wouldn't be that much of a surprise to me (and expecting Fisher to still look like she did when she was 20 years old seems kind of unfair anyway).

And hey, we all got used to William Shatner looking completely different between TOS and the movies, so I'm sure we'll be able to adjust to Fisher's new look as well.

As long as the core traits and chemistry are still there, I'll have no issue adjusting to them appearing older.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I too hope that Luke has a big badass fight scene in Episode 7. For too much of the EU Luke was too passive and didn't get enough Jedi action. It's one of the things I really disliked about the EU.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Also, after an additional 30 or more years of training and experience with the Force it's reasonable to envision Luke as a much more skilled and dynamic lightsaber opponent than he was even when he overwhelmed and defeated Vader at the end of Jedi.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah unfortunately Luke was way too pacifist for much of the EU. Particularly in the Vong War when they were worrying about whether they should even be fighting :wtf:

That's why I loved the "Fate of the Jedi" series so much. Luke was slicing and dicing Sith baddies left and right in that one. It's like all his life he was holding back for fear of going to the dark side... but when he finally met an entire army of dark siders, the gloves came off

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I wonder if we'll get a game based on Episode VII?

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I believe there's a quote several months back where JJ laments the horrible quality of movie tie-in video games, citing the Star Trek movie game.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

There's been some decent Star Wars games published by Lucasarts, although to be fair most of them are not directly based on the films but are original EU stoylines like Jedi Knight or Knights Of The Old Republic. (Although in many cases they incorporate battles from the films-Hoth for instance has been done many times)

As for the ones based directly on the films themselves, there's the old arcade games, the Super Nintendo "Super" series, and the Lego stuff but apart from that they're not really that good as noted above.

EA is developing two games I think, a new "Battlefront" and some other title. I think they've said that the games won't cover the new episodes but focus on all the movies.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

!. LucasArts game division no longer exists.
2. Knights of the Old Republic was made by BioWare.

Oh, great. That means another Hoth level. We really need more of those.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Meh. At least we're actually getting new games instead of hearing one report after another that they've been cancelled and won't ever see release.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

We'll see at least a bit more of Battlefront at E3-and possibly the other mystery game they're developing as well.

I wonder if the new canon policy will have an effect on these games as well. Granted, the original Battlefront games did feature a lot of missions based on the movie battles but also dipped a bit into the EU, especially the 501st campaign from the sequel.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

If we lose a little gaming material I'm fine with that. After all these years I've probably forgotten some of the explicitly EU material in the older games (if I even noticed and recognized it as Expanded Universe to begin with).

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

The most EU game I think was Jedi Academy, which had Luke's academy on Yavin IV (Which also appeared in the previous Jedi Knight game Jedi outcast), several EU planets such as Byss and Korriban, and even some EU villains as bad guys such as the Noghri. The final boss I think was Marka Ragnos who had appeared in the "Tales of the Jedi" comics. Also even the main character of the game had a few novels such as Crosscurrent and Riptide.

There was also an add-on to the original Jedi knight game (Which itself was a sequel to Dark Forces) called Mysteries of the Sith, where you played Mara Jade.
