Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah, the guy in Greedo's makeup and costume seen inside Jabba's Palace caught my eye when I was a kid. I remember reading something back then that called that particular alien "Beedo" and that he was supposed to be Greedo's cousin or something along those lines. I don't know if the "Beedo" name stuck along with any story that he's related to Greedo in any way, but yeah - if you pay close attention you'll see quite a few rehashed and recycled costumes and makeup in the movies so that George and the production crew could save money during filming.

There might even be an Ugnaught in there somewhere to recycle makeup from Empire and save George a few bucks.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I wonder if we'll see Mark with the ROTJ green saber in the finished film. Also I like the beard look, sort of reminiscent of Obi-Wan.

Yeah I'm really hoping for the green as well. It just looked cool as hell in ROTJ and really made him stand out and seem unique (at least until we started seeing a whole bunch of them in the prequels).

In fact at this point I think I'm more excited to see Luke as an older Jedi in this movie more than I am in seeing Han again. Just because Hamill hasn't been onscreen in such a long time, unlike Ford who we see all the freakin time. Lol

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I hope he gets a bit of bad-assery (sp?) - so something like we see some guys think they are going to mess up this old dude and then he takes then to school.

NOT what happened in Tron: Legacy when Flynn appears and everything...stops.. and I waited for the awesomeness... and they just got up and left.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

There's an ugnaught in ROTJ I think, you can see him when R2 is serving drinks on the sale barge.

I think the first time Carrie uses the Force on somebody the audience will go nuts.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Hamill looks pretty good in this recent pic from Disney World. And even if it's just a toy, seeing him hold a lightsaber again is still kinda awesome (just ignore the Mickey Mouse standing next to him).

Definitely back into fighting shape. And you're right - it's great to see.

That photo just "looks" right. It reminds me of the William Shatner Roast on Comedy Central where they had Shat sitting in a TOS captain's chair. It looked like he belonged there.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Agreed. I was really worried earlier whether Hamill could even come close to looking like his old self again, but with the lightsaber in hand he totally does look like an older Luke Skywalker.

Here's hoping we get to see him in at least one more long, badass lightsaber battle.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Yeah, Hamill looks great. The dude lost a lot of weight, so props to him. Also, I hope the goatee is for filming. I was hoping for some strange reason Luke Skywalker would have a beard or some kind of facial hair.

That'd be awesome. Especially if it's a surprise type thing in a crucial moment.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

At this point, I'd venture to say that Mark looks the best out of Big Three.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

A fiftysomething Jedi Master Luke Skywalker with a pepper grey beard and some wrinkles would look pretty cool if you ask this fan. Face it, we all wondered when we were younger what Luke would look like in the wizened, aging Obi-Wan role. If this is a glimpse then I like it.

That would make Luke in Episode VII just a little bit younger than Obi-Wan was in A New Hope (he was 60 or 61 in the original film, close to the actual age of Alec Guinness at that time). Mark could pull off the look.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

That pic of Hamil looked great. He looks exactly like what you'd want an older, wise jedi master version of Luke to look like. Hopefully the beard is part of the look, because it definately helps the image. Like other people have said, I hope he gets at least one big, awesome action scene. I was never really worried about wether he looked the part or not, I figured he could get into the needed shape. Hopefully Ford and Fisher will also succeed at looking like you'd imagine an older Han and Leia would look like.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I'm hoping Ford's role in Expendables 3 will give us a glimpse of what an older Han is like.

Has no tie in merchandise or comic depicted what the original three would look like in the future? In the Expanded universe I mean

I know Luke has children so I was wondering if a comic has shown older Luke in a panel

Or Leia Or Han

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

^
Probably so. The EU's been around long enough, that's for sure. I've never been a devoted reader of the comics and graphic novels set in the far future of the timeline nor really much of a fan of those storylines, so if they did depict an aging Luke with an Alec Guinness appearance I've forgotten or didn't see it.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Usually (for book covers, at least) its almost always a clean shaven Luke. Basically, imagine pics of Luke, Leia and Han from the OT, but a bit older looking, sometimes with grey hair (The cover of Star wars: Crucible is a great example and has an image of all three). Honestly, Leia on book covers looks significantly better than Carry Fisher when she's been on covers (which has actually been a good deal less than the other 2 main OT characters for awhile), and Luke/Han usually better than Ford or Hamill. To be fair, in SW its supposed to be a future where medical technology is much, much better than ours, and people regularly expect to live over 100 years. Plus, the characters obviously lived much different lives, so that + the medical technology has had the books, not unfairly when you think about it, have an older Luke/Han/Leia look a lot better at around 60-70 than the actors do, although I don't think that really matter for the movies. It makes sense for the EU, but just based off of Hamil in that pic I don't think it will be a big deal that they're older looking than the eU had them being, unless Fisher or Ford just look terrible, which I don't really see happening (although I think Fisher will end up being the most different looking from what I'd imagine an older Leia to be based off of the EU).

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

There have been tons of images in reference books of older versions of the trio, and there was also the Invasion comic series, which was set during the New Jedi Order novel series. I'm getting ready for work, so I don't have time to track any down ATM.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

Well Leia looked quite different just between ANH and ROTJ, so the fact she looks different yet again 30 years later wouldn't be that much of a surprise to me (and expecting Fisher to still look like she did when she was 20 years old seems kind of unfair anyway).

And hey, we all got used to William Shatner looking completely different between TOS and the movies, so I'm sure we'll be able to adjust to Fisher's new look as well.
