Star Wars: Episode VII: The Nerd Rage Awakens

And, of course, Boba Fett made his very first appearance in the notorious Star Wars Holiday Special in 1978, almost two whole years before we saw him in Empire. Boba got the earliest start of any cult-level secondary character in the Lucas universe if you don't count Jabba's earliest appearances as a bipedal humanoid in the original Marvel Comics (before his iconic, sluglike body design was finalized for Jedi).

In the EU Boba Fett blasted and crawled his way out of the belly of the Sarlacc and didn't get help, at least none that I can remember. He fell into the pit with his weapons, helmet and jetpack so as long as he survived the initial attack by the Sarlacc's digestive system and his equipment still worked he could have used what he had to get out without transmitting a signal for help.

Not quite true. He escaped himself, I think with an explosive to blow open the Sarlaac, but he would have died in the desert without help. The bounty hunter Dengar, and a dancer named Neelah from Jabba's group that survived the sail barge, saved Fett from dying of his wounds in the desert, and then traveled with him for a while. This was told in the excellent The Bounty Hunter Wars EU book trilogy by KW Jeter. I thought the trilogy was great, and it did a good job of explaining how Boba Fett survived the Sarlaac.
Pretty sure that was from Dengar's portion of "Tales of the Bounty Hunters." The first book in that trilogy, "The Mandalorian Armor" picks up a few days later.

The scary thing is that at this point, I've willingly seen the Holiday Special more than the prequels.

Who was left alive to know Fett was in the hole and call for a rescue? Wait, his helmet had an antenna attached, didn't it? Perhaps he simply called for help.

 Reminds me of the Mutiplane camera effect.

That is what I was 'seeing", also...if you did not know better...:techman:

I will never understand the popularity of Boba Fett.

Nor will I!

Fett just had that "mysterious stranger", Sergio Leone spaghetti Western quality about him. ...?

Disney canon has him as alive after Return of the Jedi at last report.

Speaking of reports, as some of you know, I am currently living in the Middle East, about 100 miles from where they are filming parts of the current Star Wars film. In case you did not see this, here is a link:

The word is they will start filming on the 13th!

:guffaw: Indeed.

Another character I liked came from The Clone Wars.... bounty hunter Cad Bane.... he also had that spaghetti Western motif going on. :)

Yes, and nice pull from the not-so-known files!

...did you see my link for the filming picture above?

I did. So that's not far from your locale eh? (Well, 100 miles is not what I'd call near, I guess. :) )
Cool. You gonna try to get your own documentation of the filming? :)

Btw, great avatar! I love Dune!

Well, I've never read that. I do, however, have "The Mandalorian Armor" in my hands right now. Dengar spends the first 10 or so pages looking through the debris of Jabba's sail barge, before seeing a moving human shaped thing. He goes to it, and finds that its Boba Fett. Dengar and Manaroo (his girlfriend) help the very injured Fett. So, regardless of what "Tales of the Bounty Hunters" might say, he definitely saves Boba at the beginning of this book

Strange. It has been more than 15 years though, I should know by now that it is usually worth double-checking. That moment is definitely present in "Tales..." though and I must have glossed over it when I read TMA since it was repeating the events of the other book to set up the story for The Bounty Hunter Wars.

Yeah, I could see the Tales of the Bounty Hunter story being similar, since it came out two years before so The mandalorian Armor would probably want to repeat the events for people who didn't read TotBH. I've been meaning to get that book, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Another Lucas creation too iirc.

But then again Lucas also has created some really shitty ones too like Savage Oppress.

I'll admit, I didn't really get Savage Oppress, but he wasn't too badly done a character. I think they could've had better lead ins if they wanted to bring Darth Maul back as they did. :)

Savage Opress was far from my favorite villain in The Clone Wars but on the other hand he wasn't a bad villain, either. We ran into more annoying and less interesting bad guys during the run the show (and, I might add, good guys and other heroes who were less interesting as well).

There's also Elan Sleazebaggano, the death stick dealer on Coruscant in Episode II. I guess "Jak Douche'wad" was taken by one of the other nightclub patrons that night.

And who can forget the lovable X-Wing pilot Jek Ande Fatman:

That was all about merchandizing.
