It was canon as long as nothing contradicted it![]()
It still seems a bit odd to me that they're making novels canon, since I can't think of any other instance when such a thing has been the case.
If it were canon, then the movies *couldn't* contradict it, that's the whole point.
Any inclusion of EU material was a *choice*, not a requirement. Thus; not canon.
If any of these rumors are true, to me it puts an end of the myth that JJ Abrams is a fan of Star Wars. Because it sounds to me like he's pretty much just disregarding the ending of the original trilogy that he claims to cherish. If they're going to steal ideas from the EU, 1) why invalidate the EU, and 2) why spend money to bring in a name director/writer like JJ Abrams? If JJ has written some of this stuff, then he's a talentless hack who is only playing with the Star Wars toybox instead of developing something new.
Han wearing his ESB outfit has me thinking what I've been thinking for a while now. Why the anyone want to see Hoth again? Hoth is literally the most boring fucking planet in all of sci-fi and fantasy. It's an deserted ice cube without even a trace of civilization.

I thought JJ and Kasdan were working from an outline by Lucas?
Also, Hoth is one of my favorite planets.![]()
Kasdan knew what he was doing on Empire and Jedi, so until I see concrete evidence to the contrary I'm going to keep an open mind about Episode VII's script. And if they use Hoth again - big whoop. It was an interesting, isolated and atmospheric world the first time around and the Lucas universe has a longstanding habit of revisiting planets, sometimes more than once. If it serves an effective storytelling purpose and advances the plot then let them reuse Hoth.
We've seen Tatooine, Coruscant and Naboo each on multiple occasions spanning the width of the Saga. As long as the story's good it doesn't much matter to me. There's room for other never-before-seen planets during the Sequel Trilogy, and who's to say at least one of them won't feature in Episode VII?
And you know this how, exactly? Have you seen the script? How Hoth is (allegedly) used in it? Yes? Then, more spoilers, please. If not, then you'll forgive me if not take this statement all that seriously.Hoth isn't any of these things and would only represent the most embarrassing and pathetic fanwanking of the original trilogy by "the true fan" JJ Abrams.
There's a potentially major spoiler just hitting the website The Star Wars Underworld as we speak. Maybe some of you have already seen it (and it should be taken with an ENORMOUS, almost Death Star-sized grain of salt until confirmed or shot down by an official source), but head over to Star Wars Underworld to check it out.
If there's any truth to this, it could make Episode VII even more interesting and a whole lot more controversial. Part of me hopes it's a load of crap but another part wants to see this character again.
