Star Wars, directed by DW Griffith

Yeah, that's great!

Do you think back in the silent era they would have actually used a villain with a full-face mask? You can't see him twirl his mustache that way.

I'll try to think of a masked villain from a silent movie...drawing a blank...unless old stone-face Buster Keaton counts? ;)

Is this the first time anyone has drawn a connection between Star Wars and the style of silent movies?

It's cute, but there are a few too many dialogue cards. We can see the "Nooooooo!!!" on Hamill's face; a real silent film wouldn't have spelled everything out. Still, mildly amusing.

I've done some poking around on YouTube, and silent film versions of Star Wars are pretty common. But this one is still the best I've come across because it's the one scene that really suits the melodramatic silent film ethos; the attention to detail, right down to the Imperial cog on the title cards and the scratches on the film; and most of all, the great piano interpretation of John Williams' score! :bolian:
