Star Wars Books Thread

Yeah, the old EU didn't have anything about the YT-1300 being a pusher for a cargo train. It just had the internal cargo hold and sometime bolted on expansion pits on the top for I think 50-100% more cargo capacity. There were contain trains in the old EU, but they tended to be a lot larger.

Some variants of the YT-1300 did have the cockpit in the centre instead of the sides.
Better variant, in my mind.

Regardless, I know I've seen the idea before TFA concept art. Can't pin down where and Internet sources are unreliable for me to nail it down.

FWIW, the revised Haynes Millennium Falcon Manual is out on bookstores shelves - at least it is at my local Barnes & Noble. A great update tot he earlier volume - it now includes material of the Falcon during the time it belonged to Lando.

Is it based on the Solo movie or the old Lando novels?

I saw a preview for this on IGN the other day, it looks pretty cool, I'm definitely planning on checking it out. They did one covering all of the Enterprises (or at least all of the Prime ones, I'm not sure if it has the Kelvin E) and one for the Klingon Bird of Prey that also look pretty cool.

Never read the Klingon one, but the Enterprise one was pretty weak. They did give a nod to the first Abramsverse Enterprise in a aside chapter about parallel universes (every so often, the book pauses taking about Star Trek ships to talk about Star Trek science and tech).

Sounds like the "Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise" was better, though that was all about the post TWOK Enterprise.

ETA: So, I'm still figuring out where I saw the Millennium Falcon as a cargo pusher design first. While I haven't found pictorial evidence, the Incredible Cross Sections book (the first one, not the TFA one) notes "barge clamps" as part of the mandible assembly. So, there is hints at that purpose, even if there isn't out and out visual presentation.

"Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise" was pretty awesome though. It take a lot of creativity to outdo that book.

T
Always wanted to read that. Saw a copy at a used bookstore once but delayed too long and someone else bought it.

I got Mr. scott's Guide cheap on Amazon or Ebay several years ago, and I'm glad I did. As a big sci fi space ship fan, its very entertaining. Not quite the best, but very good.

I got the old Falcon Haynes Manual for my Birthday, but I definitely intend to pick up the new one. I wish they'd do updated Star Wars Essential Guides, I'd like a new edition of Vehicles and Vessels and Droids, at the very least.

Will have to look into that one again.

Maybe they'll do something like that when new canon gets enough material to justify it. On the other hand, with the internet a thing now, maybe the Essential Guides are no longer as "special" as they used to be?

Well, we did get a new Star Trek Encyclopedia a couple years ago, despite all the information being available for free online on wikis like Memory Alpha.

Thrawn vs. the Emperor. :)

Obviously, it can't go that badly for either Thrawn or the Empire in general, given where Thrawn is when we first see him in Rebels. But, knowing Zahn, he'll create a nice puzzle box of dilemmas and double-crosses. :)

I'm guessing whatever he does impresses the Emperor in the end.

Also new comic series announced.

The premise sounds a lot like Chuck Wendig's "Shadow of Vader" comic series that was recently cancelled.

Judging by the new Thrawn novel's description its set during the last season of Star Wars: Rebels.

A new Thrawn book should be cool. I enjoyed the first one but found the second one to be a mixed bag (the Thrawn stuff was great, the Padme sections were tedious and irritating, just like Padme herself actually), so a book set near the end of Rebels is a good time period for a Thrawn book. I just hope none of the Rebels characters are part of the book, at least not in a big way.
