Star Wars Books Thread

Timeline changed when they have Ben Solo born not long after Endor.

Yeah, for a minute I thought it was a really inexplicable choice to have them go on their honeymoon while the war is still raging and they're trying to establish the New Republic as a viable alternative to the Empire, then I realized they don't really have an option if they want to do this story but not have Ben conceived out of wedlock.

Not massively interested in this story being told, but having it happen that close to Jedi at least makes WAY more sense and feels more natural to how that movie ended than the EU version which was "it took them 4 more years and a damn kidnapping to tie the knot."

Also presumably, Threepio (mercifully) doesn't do a song and dance number this time around.

The Princess and the Scoundrel by Beth Revis will be giving us a new, canon version of Han and Leia's wedding.
BLURB:
You are cordially invited to the wedding of Princess Leia Organa and Han Solo.

The Death Star is destroyed. Darth Vader is dead. The Empire is desolated. But on the forest moon of Endor, amongst the chaos of a changing galaxy, time stands still for a princess and her scoundrel.

After being frozen in carbonite, then risking everything for the Rebellion, Han is eager to stop living his life for other people. He and Leia have earned their future together, a thousand times over. And when he proposes to Leia, it’s the first time in a long time he’s had a good feeling about this. For Leia, a lifetime of fighting doesn’t truly seem over. There is work still to do, penance to pay for the dark secret she now knows runs through her veins. Her brother, Luke, is offering her that chance—one that comes with family and the promise of the Force. But when Han asks her to marry him, Leia finds her answer immediately on her lips . . . Yes.

But happily ever after doesn’t come easily. As soon as Han and Leia depart their idyllic ceremony on Endor for their honeymoon, they find themselves on the grandest and most glamorous stage of all: the Halcyon, a luxury vessel on a very public journey to the most wondrous worlds in the galaxy. Their marriage, and the peace and prosperity it represents, is a lightning rod for everyone in the galaxy—including Imperial remnants still clinging to power.

Facing their most desperate hour, the soldiers of the Empire have dispersed across the galaxy, retrenching on isolated worlds vulnerable to their influence. As the Halcyon travels from world to world, one thing becomes abundantly clear: The war is not over. But as danger draws closer, Han and Leia find that they fight their best battles not alone but as husband and wife.

The Courtship of Princess Leia was OK, definitely not one of the best of the Legends books, and I will be curious to see if this one is any better. I really liked Beth Revis's Rebel Rising, so I'm pretty confident this will be good.
I wonder what is says about me as a human being that I could just read that aurebesh and didn't need to translate it. Probably that I should get out more (like that's even an option! )

Aurebesh is an actual language you can read? I had always assumed it was just random shapes when I saw it in the movies and shows.

It's just a substitute cipher. Sometimes it's jibberish, sometimes it's easter eggs not to be taken seriously, sometimes it's actually what it says. I guess I should really say that it's a substitute cipher *now*. West End Games developed the current form of it in the late 80's or early 90's based (reasonably closely) on what was used on screen in the original movies . . . which indeed WAS just random nonsense (made from modified dry-transfer sheets if I had to guess.) From the PT onwards, Lucasfilm have basically just adopted WEG's version out of convenience.

In case you're wondering, that text says "May the force be with you".

Aurek Fonts has gone into exhaustive detail cataloging all the variations of aurebesh that have popped up over the years. The TL;DR is that there’s usually some kind of official version, then a weird fan made one from the internet will pop up in an episode or movie, apparently because that’s what some animator or production artist had on their computers, so suddenly “p” is wrong or there’s upside-down punctuation or something.

Oh I'm quite familiar with Aurek Fonts; I was just trying to keep it simple. ;)
I can recognize some letters without looking them up.
Thanks to this character having the letter that is also her name tattooed on her face, I don't think I'll ever forget what the letter 'T' looks like.

Just posted this over in @fireproof78's The Mandalorian Rewatch thread.
Eh. The Marvel adaptations have been very hit and miss (mostly miss), and more often than not, fairly perfunctory.
The only way this could be interesting is of they commission an artist to Alex Ross it and make the whole thing in a style that apes the look of the concept art that they show over the credits.

The fact that they're doing each episode in one issue makes me think that there's not going to be room for any new scenes or anything like that, hell I'm not even sure if that's room for everything we saw in the episodes. With the Kelvinverse Star Trek comics, when they did their episode remake arcs, they took two issues for each one.

They are actually releasing a book that ties Han and Leia's wedding into that overpriced Star wars hotel (the "Halcyon Starcruiser" is also what ship the hotel is supposed to be) At least the stuff released that tied into the Star Wars Land planet wasn't tied into important life events of the OG Star Wars trio.
The comics that tied into Galaxy's Edge were actually quite good. They didn't feel like an advertisement, they just used the setting of the park as a setting. Like how the park itself isn't trying to feel like a park.
