Star Wars Battlefront

Basically a couple of tutorial style missions that remind you how awesome an actual single player campaign would be with this tech and then they're over.

I used to love playing splitscreen on the original Battlefronts.

I tried the new one during open beta. Stunning graphics and authenticity, but after an hour of MP fragging, decided: meh...

Nailed it. Ugh.

I can't afford the game (all my spare cash for the rest of the year is going to my mom's surgery operation) but at least I don't feel too drained for it -- I want my campaign, dammit.

It is a shame that this turned out to be such a shallow experience, even for a modern MP shooter. The art and audio assets are very authentic and it's probably the best looking Star Wars game I've ever seen. A well designed SP campaign with these art assets and some decent AI would be fantastic.

But that would be a different game. Battlefront started as Galactic Conquest, a mod for Battlefield. It's always been Battlefield mod and you shouldn't go into it looking for something that isn't a Battlefield mod.

Having said that... Battlefields 3+4 did ship with perfunctory SP campaigns, and they could have made one for Battlefront pretty easily using the existing Star Wars assets... but then everyone complaining about the nonexistent campaign now would just be complaining about the mediocre campaign, so they would have spent a lot of time and money for not much gain. Better to just say: "It's a multiplayer game. If you want Singleplayer FPS, play Dark Forces." and move on.

I try to like this game but its so hard, the entire experience is so shallow with only the looks and sound saving it. A handful of piss poor small linear COD esq maps do not make a game especially one from DICE. It doesn't feel epic in any way apart from the look and sound of it.

1st person and 3rd person cannot co exist for ground units IMO, I can understand why vehicles, gun turrets and heroes might have it but normal units just no. The gunplay is so shallow with no real dip or anything really its all so casual. All you see on PC version are people clearly in 3rd person tapping left n right quickly going from side to side while spraying lasers

6/10, maybe 5.5 score and that's being generous.

One of the greatest things about the old Battlefield 2 was the huge modding community that built amazing maps, vehicles and total conversions. Best game engine they ever made before or since, IMO. Ever since they removed that ability since BF3 it hasn't held much interest for me. I tried getting back into it with the more recent BF4 but it just didn't work for me. Too glitchy and buggy. World of Tanks is my new drug now.

Just watch. Soon there'll be a "World of Walkers" game. (To which there'll be another game with the WoW abbreviation, which will confuse the hell out of everyone.)

Gamer 1: Do you play WoW?

Gamer 2: Hell yeah, I do! Hardcore, baby, all the way! Do the Dew, and don't skimp on the Red Bull!

Gamer 1: You know it, bro! So, tell me about your character?

Gamer 2: Oh, man, it's fuckin' sweet! 15 meters tall of sheer unstoppable destruction!

Gamer 1: 15 meters? Holy shit, dude! What kind of--?!

Gamer 2: Oh, it gets better, man! I bring my destructive head to bear on any target that is even slightly smaller than me, and I rain hellfire on it, and in a matter of seconds, the other player is a simpering crybaby, looking at the ruins.

Gamer 1: Sounds pretty powerful!

Gamer 2: Powerful is an understatement! My machine of destruction is armageddon incarnate.

Gamer 1: Machine? You're speaking figuratively... right?

Gamer 2: My All Terrain Armored Transport is the King of World of Walkers! All tremble before the might of my walker!

Gamer 1: Er....wha? I'm ..sorry, I thought we-- were talking World of Warcraft.

Gamer 2: What? That lameass little pissant of a game?

Gamer 1: Dude, those are dueling words you speak!

Gamer 2: Bring it on! My AT-AT vs your level 40 Dragon! I dares ya!

:D

Yeah, PlayStation Network was free to play online back on the PS3, but with the PS4 you now have to pay to access the service (the PSN Plus service, that is, which is now what you need if you want to play online), just like Xbox Live.

I heard somewhere that I have to pay $10 a month to play this on my PS4.. is that true?

You do have to be a PlayStation Network Plus member. I grabbed a 3 month card from gamestop for $17.99 just to play this game. Personally I think its been worth it. I'm loving the online play.

Plus you get discounts on games and things.

Well after trying the full game a little today, I got to relive some of the highlights from Battlefront 2 such as thermal detonation my enimies and using Vader to force choke people, with the added bonus of frying people with a rocket launcher and thorwing Vader's ligthsaber at them.

This game has been selling at $40 for the past couple weeks... is this a sign it's not selling well? I would think the movie coming out would be enough to move $60 copies...

The game isn't terrible, but boy oh boy does it feel like a massive amount of missed potential. No campaign, barely any single player beyond a few generic ideas. The online play isn't bad, but it's certainly not mind-blowing. The graphics are astonishing, but that can only carry so much. Play it at your friend's house so you don't have to pay for it.

I got it at the discounted PSN price over the holiday break, 27 quid was just low enough to get me on board in terms of value.

I had a free game credit so I got Battlefront for a day. Now, I'm not online... but this game is INCREDIBLY disappointing. There's only EIGHT maps?! And the design is very claustrophobic there aren't open spaces really. And there's no soldier classes? And it's only OT planets? Ugh.

Here's what I don't understand. I can't even do the damn Walker Assault on Hoth. What, that's online only? It's another map I don't have access to because I'm offline? I have no vehicles anywhere.

OK, on further examination I did find "training missions" I can play that are vehicular combat. So I can be a snowspeeder on Hoth, but not an AT-AT. I can also be an AT-ST on Sullust, an X-Wing on Tattooine, and a speeder bike on Endor.

I still don't like the controls. It's a shame this game is so disappointing. I've been waiting for this game for ten damn years. Battlefront 2 is one of my favorite games of all time. The graphics are gorgeous, but that's about all I can say about it.

My initial hatred did wear off a little, but I still think it's a third of a game. Too bad I'm not on X-Box Live... yet. I just bought a year long card on a sale.
