Star Wars Battlefront

I assume it was purely a business decision. Online games have more longevity and tend to attract a more devoted fan base, at least if they are done well. Single-player campaigns tend to be one and done, so they fade quickly from memory (and the marketplace).

Definitely a commercial decision (Rainbow Six, I'm looking at you). Think of business logic: maps + assets + MP scripting vs maps + assets + MP scripting (because you need that anyway) + SP campaign animations & scripting & cutscenes & additional voiceover.

Also, doubtless they're making the skimpiest possible game to leave a lot of room for sequels. Star Wars Battlefront 2: The Force Awakens. Star Wars Battlefront 3: The Clone Wars (because by then enough time will have passed that it's not anathema anymore).

You shouldn't have bought it if you don't like MP focused experiences, it's not just terrible value for you, it's completely without value. ;)

I bought it mostly as a sensory bathtub of Star Wars-y sounds and sights to submerge myself casually in, and it's perfect for that. It's probably the most casual multiplayer shooter game I have ever played, which is great if that's what you're there for and utterly terrible if you're a dedicated, competitive player type.

Couldn't agree more. The few hours I played the beta, I honestly didn't care about the MP element as I was just happy to bathe in the sensory experience. Oooh, look Star Destroyer in the sky! But there wasn't enough of a narrative drive to make me purchase game.

This game has its moments, but overall it's the most frustrating game I've ever played. Whether it's problems with the game itself or the average IQ of my teammates (low to non-existent) only about 1 in 20 games ends up being enjoyable. I've never played a game before where none of my teammates were interested in winning the game, only camping and boosting their k/d. Some people won't activate an objective if they're standing right in front of it. Just want to pew pew pew with their blasters, but there's a game mode for that called Blast. I joined a Drop Zone game the other day where my entire team were content just to find sniping points overlooking the pods and firing from there. A pod landed right by them and they ran off to get a good position to fire at it from, not one of them bothering to activate it. I wouldn't even bother with online if they'd bothered to include a single player campaign. The coin collecting missions are flat out dumb, and Survival got boring before I finished my first game.
