Lucasfilm announced today that Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith will be released theatrically in 3D back-to-back on September 20, 2013 and October 11, 2013, respectively.

The good news is that this means we are going to get the OT much sooner. I'm really surprised they are going rerelease both movies back to back. I think even Lucasfilms knows that few people are interested in AOTC. I doubt many will be able to sit through the overlong romance scenes.

I wonder how much better the ROTS rerelease will do compared to AOTC?

Smart. AOTC would be tumbleweed heaven. On the dvd I go straight from the speeder chase to the Slave-1 battle to Obi-Wan vs. Jango to the Battle of Geonosis. Takes about 45-50 mins. The rest is really hard to sit through.

Can't wait to see ROTS on the big screen again.

These days, I consider AOTC to be the weakest movie in the series.

At least TPM had Qui-Gon, Darth Maul and the great lightsaber duel at the end.

The bad overling romance in AOTC really crippled that movie.

Now that both Pre-quals have release dates, I will skip seeing AOTC and just see ROTS. Then wait for the original trilogy to be released.

I'm sorry but every time someone talks about 3D movies all I can think of is....

"Wait. Did I travel back to the 1980s? What the heck is going on here?"

I mean, seriously didn't we all realize how stupid this was 30 years ago?

Sweet. My little girl and I had a blast seeing TPM in 3D. I love being able to take her to see the Star Wars films on the big screen. She reaallly got into the podrace- cheering for Anakin and booing Sebulba to the point that she had the other people in the theater cracking up. I can't wait to take her to see the others.

I enjoyed seeing The Phantom Menace in 3D a lot. The conversion probably could have been improved a little, but hey, it was great as it was, and I loved the heck out of it.

I'll be seeing every Star Wars film in 3D.

I wonder if they would release the whole original trilogy in 2013?

I doubt it.

The OT will do much better than the PT. They'll want to milk it out so they will release the OT yearly. ANH will still do the best while its sequels will do less like always.

I just fixed it. I meant 2014.

Don't forget the 1997 re-releases where very close to each other. The releases may be stretched out more, but I doubt this will be a yearly thing.

They'll make more money if they release the OT yearly. Releasing to ESB and ROTJ so soon after ANH was why the special editions didn't do better.

They releasing AOTC and ROTS back to back because they are worried the AOTC rerelease won't do that well. If AOTC disappoints, ROTS might not be released if it had been scheduled for release a year later.

By doing it this way it will cover their bases, if AOTC underperforms.

Agree with you there. We've done this already. Ok the 3D is different but it's a fad that needs to be buried.

However seeing A new Hope on the Big screen will be good.

Yeah, I don't anticipate wasting any money on AOTC, either. By far my least favorite of the six movies. I'm glad they're releasing both it and ROTS next year so that we can get to the good stuff sooner (and I'm including ROTS among 'the good stuff,' haters gonna hate. :p)

I've seen more 3D films in the cinema in the past 5 years than I have 2D in the last 20.

So Lucas isn't even gonna try to fix any of the problems on AOTC, huh? Jeez, the one time he doesn't want to tinker...

I'll see them both. ATOC was the only Star Wars movie I didn't see in the theater since my son was born right about the time when it opened. I've seen the DVD obviously, but it's not the same. I wish Lucas would cut about 40 minutes out of the damn thing. The prequels are just a means to the good stuff for me, and my son loved seeing TPM in 3D, so I'm in.
