Star Wars Always -That '70s Show star Topher Grace's trailer for all of the live action movies

Yeah, I had the exact opposite reaction, and I hope to hell that, if Rey's family history is ever clarified further, she does not turn out to be a Skywalker or otherwise related to Luke.

Well, the saga to this point has been the story of the Skywalker family. So Rey turning out to be a Skywalker somehow would not surprise me in the least.

And Kylo Ren remains a Skywalker, regardless of whether Rey is or not.

Episodes VII and VIII already have a Skywalker family through line. Kylo killed his father and got humiliated by his uncle. Kylo's now top dog in the First Order going into Episode IX. Not to mention Leia being revealed as having Force abilities. Why does the Sequel Trilogy need more Skywalker content?

I've been under the impression we won't be getting episodes after IX. With the way they've been talking about this being the end of the Skywalker Saga, I've been thinking that after IX is out we'll be going to more stand alone stuff like Rian Johnsons movies, and the Game of Thrones' guys. I could see Rey, Finn, and Co showing up in new movies, but they probably will either be more individual movies, rather than another big trilogy.

Not saying it'd be a good idea. Just saying I won't be surprised if it happens.

One of the co-hosts of the Aggressive Negotiations podcast (who is a member here) postulated a theory about a month ago (or so) that would allow the Sequel Trilogy to "have its cake and eat it too" as far as Rey goes by tying her to Shmi Skywalker, pointing out that Shmi and Anakin are not native to Tatooine and that we know absolutely nothing about her life before we meet her (and Anakin) in The Phantom Menace.

I'm not sure it's something that JJ would end up doing given his personal viewpoints, but it would be an interesting way to "satisfy" and "shut up" the complainers who insist that she has to be a Skywalker despite everything we've seen and heard telling us otherwise.

^ Because they'll never accept the fact that they were wrong. Throwing them a bone by connecting Rey to Shmi would at least get them to stop complaining and allow the Sequel Trilogy to finish off the Saga films without being dragged down by petulant whining.

Let them complain. Giving in to that sort of thing would be setting the worst kind of precedent.

Besides, linking Rey to Shmi would be pretty much pointless. The idea is supposed to be that there's nothing special about the Skywalker line Force-wise until whatever happens with Anakin. They were Muggles.

...to finish off the Saga films without being dragged down by petulant whining.

That's adorable that you believe that. Never stop dreaming and keep reachin' for the stars!

As long as there are fans, there will be plenty of petulant whining to go round.
