Star Wars 7 Anticipation thread - rumors, photos, etc.

If Episode VII does get delayed (and that would probably be for the best) I hope they move it to Summer 2016. Star Wars is a Summer film, not a Christmas film.

I don't know, growing up in the 80's I'd always associated them with Christmas since that's when they used to show them on the telly. ;)
I have an idea: let's try to keep this thread positive ... at least until the first trailer.

Good luck with that.

Call me a pessimist, but I'm waiting to see the actual film. Anyone else remember being blown away by this? Fool me once... :p

I think it was almost a given that Abrams was going to want to put his own stamp on the story, and not simply go with whatever Kennedy and Arndt came up with.

I also can't help but think that trying to squeeze in Ford, Hamill and Fisher is making this process a lot more complicated than it might have been otherwise. I wouldn't be surprised if that was where most of the story problems are coming from...

Le sigh.

I agree that Star Wars is a summer film (always has been, anyway), so pushing it to 2016 means delaying its release by one whole year. I wonder whether that's the problem that the suits are having.

It's true that the original film was made under tremendous pressure, and that that didn't stop it from being one of the most important films in history. I don't necessarily agree that pressure guarantees both top-quality work and success, but there should be no shortage of artistic experience to draw upon in the industry to complete SWVII, provided those resources can actually be brought to bear, and provided principal photography wraps in time. While the 'splosions and the pew-pew are important, they won't be the most important things in SWVII. The original film proved that story and the right combination of character archetypes (if not character) were more important, and that less than perfect effects could still fill the role of jaw-dropping-ly stunning and groundbreaking visuals. The exact same applied in 1980, as well. This is why I am pleased to learn that the screenplay is being top consideration, even at this late date.

actually, most sources are reporting an October-Christmas release date. summer is assumed to be out of the question. the problem is that plans are already set for the next six years of Star Wars. pushing back episode 7 means pushing back everything.

Oh? Dream's source said summer 2015, and I accepted that without question.

Although the 2015 schedule already is full of tentpoles including Disney/Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, Warner Bros.' Superman-Batman mashup and Lionsgate's final Hunger Games, Iger has crafted a Star Wars game plan that hinges on Episode VII hitting the big screen that summer.

Do you think pushing back Star Trek into Darkness a year helped it?

I've heard some think it contributed to STID's box office woes.

I'm pretty sure having a terrible script didn't help much either. :/

Really now, the idea that behind the scenes drama or production pushbacks necessarily means that a film will either be good or bad is just ludicrous. I can probably name as many bad films that had troubled productions as I can *really* good ones. Honestly, it's about as relevant as what brand of serial the extras are fed in the morning.

What matters is the material and the performances. Everything else is window dressing.

And Iger isn't used to people telling him "no" or "can't." Episode VII will be out in Summer 2015, even if it has to be a rush job, IMO.

I hope they avoid a Christmas release. Star Wars is a summer franchise but then again with all these spinoffs, Disney seems like they are trying to make it just another franchise. Let the spinoffs be holiday releases.

This does show you what happens when the studios control Star Wars. They go at it like a pack of vultures.

Wall Street Journal had said Disney overpaid for Star Wars. I wonder if Iger is in panic mode and trying to show some dollars as quickly as possible.

In a perfect world it would get delayed until sometime around when hell freezes over, but since that comment is just me being sarcastic I'd actually hope it comes out asap. The sooner it comes out, the sooner sequels can come out and hopefully keep coming out until we eventually get another Star wars movie without JJ Abrams.

Seems like Iger was finally told "no" or "can't" after all.
Seems like December 18th 2015 will be the date, with another movie (Tomorrowland) taking the rumored May 22nd slot.

There could be a couple of new Star Wars toys floating around stores around December...
