I agree that Star Wars is a summer film (always has been, anyway), so pushing it to 2016 means delaying its release by one whole year. I wonder whether that's the problem that the suits are having.
It's true that the original film was made under tremendous pressure, and that that didn't stop it from being one of the most important films in history. I don't necessarily agree that pressure guarantees both top-quality work and success, but there should be no shortage of artistic experience to draw upon in the industry to complete SWVII, provided those resources can actually be brought to bear, and provided principal photography wraps in time. While the 'splosions and the pew-pew are important, they won't be the most important things in SWVII. The original film proved that story and the right combination of character archetypes (if not character) were more important, and that less than perfect effects could still fill the role of jaw-dropping-ly stunning and groundbreaking visuals. The exact same applied in 1980, as well. This is why I am pleased to learn that the screenplay is being top consideration, even at this late date.
