STAR TREK: YEAR FIVE launch day!

I liked this first issue a lot. The artwork was good, the story was intriguing, and it's always cool to see
the Tholians
.

I find Trek comics very hit and miss (just personally, not meant to rag on any of them) but I really liked this one. Looking forward to more.

I thought it was just OK. Spock seemed pretty off-model to me, in a number of ways. And constant call-backs to previous episodes are one of my pet peeves for tie-in fiction in general. Overall, it's hard to compete with the TOS writing being produced by Cox, Bennett, Mack, et al. Pretty decent art, though. I have pre-orders through #4, so I'll give it a couple more issues before deciding whether or not to continue.

I liked issue 2. I'm getting a strong season one vibe off Kirk, which is great. It had some good character moments for everyone, even the Tholians.

I really enjoyed this one but I'm not a fan of two issue stories generally because they end up being far too lightweight compared to an episode, although character studies work well in this format. I much preferred the few three or four issue stories in the NuTrek run. Too many of the shorter stories were resolved with a simple use of the transporter or warping away and it's hard to maintain the interest of fans with such basic conclusions.

I'm sure the format is dictated by the requirement to keep possible trade paperbacks in mind but I hope we do get some longer stories as well.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for the return of CPO Janice Rand in engineering.
