Whoah, looking at the poll results, I had no idea the Kelvin stuff was so popular.

I honestly didn't enjoy it at all. The Trek universe is so massive that it made no sense to me to create movies that tied in to...nothing. If anything, maybe a show - but movies are short and are spaced apart by years, so throwing away all the world-building from the countless hours of Trek content and having to establish everything in standalone films seemed like an odd choice to me.

The number of casual fans and nonfans that I show this film makes it well worth it. I use it with clients in discussing different topics. Its easily accessible in a way much of other Trek isn't yet is enjoyed much more by me who knows Kirk and Spock and Pike in the Prime continuity.

It all adds up to a richer franchise for it.

Technically the 2009 movie was tied to Unification and the Prime timeline generally, having its roots there, and ultimately it tied in with Picard.
Beyond had ties to Enterprise.

There's so much more to movies and shows than interconnected universes.

Same here. It's ridiculous IMHO.

To me, Kelvin movies are the PERFECT introduction to Star Trek for people asking me about Star Trek that have never given it a chance, mostly younger friends.
It's fairly self contained, it's modern, engaging, and starts making the conversation about the other Star Treks easier once this gives them the basics.
I've converted quite a few people this way.

V’ger (or The Changeling)
The Doomsday Machine
A Piece of the Action
Any other story based on a premise that predates the branching timeline.

If the Kelvin series continued regularly as a film franchise, I’d be onboard with this.

But its been too long since BEY. A complete new story should follow, if they ever continue.

If ST’09 was rock ‘n’ roll, then ST4 should be metal.

To me, Kelvin movies are the PERFECT introduction to Star Trek for people asking me about Star Trek that have never given it a chance, mostly younger friends.
It's fairly self contained, it's modern, engaging, and starts making the conversation about the other Star Treks easier once this gives them the basics.
I've converted quite a few people this way.

It's not so modern anymore. The first movie is now nearly 15 years old. Strange new worlds would be a modern entry point.

How about a movie about how they're designing a new starship, they're about to go through with it, then they cancel it, then they start up a new design, then they're about to go through with it, then they cancel it, then they start up a new design, say Scotty is working on it, Scotty has no idea what they're talking about, then they're about to go through with it, then they cancel it....

The problem with strange new worlds is that it’s not really a modern entry point in the sense that it takes place directly after the events of Discovery Season 2. It’s more of a season premiere than a series premiere. Cause if you came into cold you would be like why does pike know about his future? Why should we care about spock missing his sister. etc etc

I want something akin to Yesterday's Enterprise. The Enterprise-A gets involved in a final time travel mission where Unlike the Enterprise-C going forward in time the Enterprise-A gets thrown back in time to right before the events of the '09 film and they sacrifice themselves to put right what went wrong. (Yes I made a Quantum Leap reference love the original show.)

But STD is pretty awful. Only one story per season. It's nothing like trek should be. SNW at least feels like trek. They could do better in making it fit with TOS but it's light years better than STD.

There are a number of reasons why DIS did not feel like Trek, at least at the beginning of its run.

Being a single-story season was not one of them.

If any of the Kelvin films were instead the length of a season of DIS, they’d probably feel very much like Star Trek, instead of just action sci-fi movies
