I guess because of the ''vive la difference'' aspect. Maybe also because when Kirk does it and this century never has yet, he makes us look like fools.

Annual reminder we need an epic ISS Enterprise vs USS Enterprise on-screen battle.
Is there anything they can do with ships shooting at each other that we haven't already seen too many times?

Something like Diane Duane's TNG novel Dark Mirror, where some of our crew go undercover on the Mirrorprise would interest me far more.

Selfishly speaking, I’d love to see a next Kelvin movie show a full-on Federation fleetwide battle against another adversary’s fleet.

Granted, it’s all been done before - so it’s more me wanting to see it done again with Kelvin-timeline starships.

who am I kidding: I just want to see more Kelvin starship designs in general!

:D

Indeed. There are some great designs in that universe and I would welcome it, at any turn. Even would welcome a new crew on a Kelvin Starfleet ship.

I want a movie set in the 24th century but not a continuation of Picard or some stupid "reboot".

I want new characters.

I selected the last option ("Other") for I am open to all of the above, with a caveat. I do not want to see another film where the antagonist is seeking revenge. It is time I feel to do something different.

Plausible “remakes” in Kelvinverse:

V’ger (or The Changeling)
The Doomsday Machine
A Piece of the Action
Any other story based on a premise that predates the branching timeline.

Something entirely new (my preference but I understand the pull of revisiting old favourites among studios).

I think Doomsday holds promise with an expanded time frame for telling the story (if a do over is the choice). Good mix of action and potential character development, as well as drama. Can deviate from the original with ease as the device itself is out there but nothing else about the encounter needs to be closely mimicked.

But really, any Kelvinverse story would be fine with me. The cast has not been sufficiently used.

They did develop a story where a Doomsday Machine was wrecking Romulan space and the Enterprise was sent to help. It had a daft cliffhanger ending where Klingons stormed Starfleet HQ and took over, and their leader unmasked to reveal himself as Khan who somehow escaped his cryopod from the end of Into Darkness.

Well I wasn’t looking for Doomsday on acid.

I want a Hard Sci-Fi Trek movie, directed either by Christopher Nolan or Denis Villeneuve, in the artistic style of Star Trek TMP but set in the 25th century prime timeline. I want great actors, Sci-Fi epiphanies, and a thought provoking twist which makes us think about humanity and it’s destiny.

You know, an actual powerhouse, Sci Fi movie, which gets a 8,5 on IMDB, criticized only by those who don’t understand the movie.

Odd you should make a point of mentioning TMP, then, which:

1) Wasn't Hard Science Fiction (it was a melodrama in a Star Trek wrapper)
2) Didn't get an 8.5 on IMDb (6.4)
3) Didn't have great actors
4) Didn't contain any SciFi epiphanies
5) Wasn't especially thought-provoking
6) Wasn't an actual powerhouse, its plot (aside from the soap-opera center) consisted largely of elements recycled from previously-seen Star Trek stories, and its box-office total was bolstered by significant runs in more-expensive IMAX theaters to show off several then-impressive visual-effects and starship-porn sequences.

What you're describing is something other than Star Trek.

Would it be possible to make a Hard Science Fiction movie in a Star Trek setting? Sure it would, but is that a thing most of the Star Trek audience would be likely to watch? Would they be willing to watch it more than once?

So, not Star Trek.

Because Star Trek is an action/adventure platform centered on human drama and occasional social commentary.

Wow, I didn't even know IMAX was a thing back then.
IMAX wasn't nearly as common at that time -- most of the IMAX-equipped theaters* in existence circa 1979 were to be found at science museums, planetariums and the like -- but the company was founded in 1967 and the first made-for-IMAX movie was shown at Expo '70 in Osaka.

* The original format called for a screen size of 27 by 20 metres (89 ft × 66 ft). Later versions allowed it to be scaled to smaller screen dimensions that would fit into a multiplex-sized theater.
