Star Trek XII Release Date & Box Office Discussion Thread

no i don't think its a bad choice, star trek is sci fi, hobbit is a fantasy, as to men of steel, have no clue what that is,

Most people who go to movies don't make these distinctions. All of these movies are big-budget fantasies as opposed to romantic comedies, thrillers, horror movies or animated kids movies (to name a few categories that people notice).

If they do end up moving it, Holiday 2012 might be a bad choice since "The Hobbit, Part 1" and "Man of Steel" are opening that month.

no i don't think its a bad choice, star trek is sci fi, hobbit is a fantasy, as to men of steel, have no clue what that is, If i Sci fi geek am ignorant of that movie you can only imagine how many others are out there,

Hobbit and Star Trek Will do fine, and I predict 320-325 million box office earner for Star Trek, My last prediction of 250-258 million dollar earner for Star Trek was spot on, Avatar too, I predicted it'll make minimum of 580 million and might earn as much as 700 million, it blew both predictions by earning over 700 million at US box office alone.

Hobbit might make 425 million at US box office alone, but we need to wait and see.

Star Trek might not do well internationally, I am hoping it might pull 150 million worldwide, we'll just need to wait and see,

I would prefer it not being near "The Hobbit." It brings up the bad decision Paramount made of releasing Nemesis a few days before "The Return of the King." Of course the film was a big problem, but releasing it so close to the final part of the Lord of the Rings definitely ate into some profits that might have come from casual moviegoers who don't see tons of movies.

And Star Trek might not make that much over the holidays just because it'll be much more front-loaded. Trek XI did so well because it had all of summer to make money, which it did. That's not gonna be the case if there's a holiday release. Excluding the anomaly of Avatar, the November/December box office numbers are a good amount less than the summer numbers.

I think Star Trek would play better in the summer rather that the winter time. It just has more of the summer feel to it. LOTR and I'm going to guess the same tone will be the same with "The Hobbit", just feel more like winterime movies.

I guess, for me release date has no baring, I think Hobbit is going to be a great movie, but JJ Abrams is also great at spin and making a vibe, I am sure he'll make same feel for next star trek movie as he made for all his movies since than. All his movies did well as a result of that and I hope he wont let us down this time round.

If movie is released in 2013 I might as well travel to US to see it, specifically to San Francisco, home of the Star Fleet and see it there with few m8s.

We'll see.

Star Trek 3 might than be released sometimes in 2015, which is also fine, with new star trek series hopefully following behind sometimes in 2017. :D
