Star Trek XII Release Date & Box Office Discussion Thread

I always thought 2012 seemed more likely; I posted that somewhere a long time ago. But everybody kept insisting 2011, and I wouldn't mind it. I just didn't think they would manage it. Of course, 2012 -- they are bumping up against the big asteroid strike, alien invasion, supervolcano, what have you.
Good thing Kirk and co. will be around to protect us then.
I prefer they take their time and do it right, even if it means waiting an extra year or so.
No one wants Trek XII earlier than me, I'm the most impatient Trekkie on the face of the earth.

But the fact that it isn't even written yet is a death knell for a 2011 release. Christmas maybe, but they'd want lightning to strike twice for a summer release.
Isn't trek better in the summer anyway?

Who knows, with all the secrecy, perhaps there's a surprise lurking around the corner... 
Paramount would probably like to keep Trek a summer movie franchise after the success of this one, but is there any chance they'd consider releasing it for the 2011 Holiday Season? Heck, they were originally going to release this one back in December. It doesn't seem likely, but sometimes Trek movies have done well when released towards the end of the year (First Contact, The Voyage Home, and to a lesser extent, Generations and The Undiscovered Country). However, the most recent ones to come out in November/December either underperformed (Insurrection) or flat-out flopped (Nemesis).
So yeah, they'll probably want to stick with summer, and I think 2012 is probably the most likely bet.

I think the concern with a Holiday release is that there's only a couple weeks where kids are out of school. Trek XI seemed to do really strong mid-week compared to a lot of other blockbusters and that would be less likely during the holidays when people are busy shopping and kids are in school except for the two weeks around Christmas and New Year's.
The end of the world would also hurt the film's legs.
Have someone get in touch with the end of the world and tell it that 2012 just isn't working well, eschatologically, so could it please reschedule?
Damn. Can I just...you know, go into hibernation until May 2012? I don't think I can stand the wait. Four years between ENT and XI for my Trek fix was bad enough!
I would rather wait until 2012 for a great movie like this last one than a rushed film full of plot holes.

Sure, but could you wait until 2013?Trek must be in there for '12. It would be too huge an oversight for them to leave it out since they are already talking sequel. Hell, they were talking sequel before it even came out!
Maybe it's the "ghost" project, could be a codename.
Summer of 2012 sounds good to me.
It concerns me that Star Trek is not even penciled in for 2011 or 2012, or even as a TBD.
Anybody else think this isn't a good thing. Should it not at the very least be "Star Trek" (Untitled) TBD?
TPTB have probably been floored by the performance of the film, and trying to figure out where to put it given the numbers...

Two points:
1. This is the slate of films produced by Dreamworks to be distributed by Paramount. Paramount has a separate listing.
2. This is from BOM, which isn't by any mean official in any way.
^ I note that only one film is slotted for 2012, at this point, and only three for 2011. That says to me that there's a fair bit more than the next Star Trek film yet to be filled in, TBDs notwithstanding, and that there's no real reason to be getting worried at the omission, with the movie still nearly three years out.
