Star Trek XI Tie-In Novels Postponed

i dont think the novels would have build up that much of an audience.

I've already acknowledged that media tie-ins are estimated to be read by 1-2% of the general audience. I was saying that, if the novels are poorly received, the fan grumblings might grow and grow, as they did with reactions to the leaked "Nemesis" script. That film had no hope of survival amid all those negative vibes.

but it would be income coming in between movies.
Pocket Books and CBS will still get income. They've already named some of the titles that will slot into the four empty spaces.

i also dont see pocketbook being the parent of this idea.
Of course they're not. Someone higher up told them to hold off.

i am pretty sure they know how much income they are kissing goodbye.
They'll get it back when the books are finally published. No one said they're canceled outright.

Why should the corporations pass up money? Their publishing those comics didn't damage Star Trek in any way.

Sure, but IDW did two prequel mini-series ("Countdown" and "Spock Reflection"), set in the 24th century, a "Nero" mini-series, set within the film's timeframe, and now an upcoming movie adaptation mini-series. They have avoided the immediate post-movie period.

.

i suspect the bad reviews both in the media and among friends is what killed nemesis with most people.
that and parts of the trailer were just laughable.

i suspect most of the people i know personally who avoided nemesis like the plague did so based on that trailer and later word of mouth.

because i know they didnt know about the leaked script.

I'm just going on the eighteen months or so of unprecedented badmouthing the script got in the lead-up to "Nemesis". I don't doubt that the trailer annoyed even more people, and the reviews even more. But there were mostly-empty cinemas on opening night - and NEM's US premiere weekend was soundly beaten by J-Lo's abysmal "Maid in Manhattan".

i just dont think most of those ever heard about the leaked script.
but they did see that horrible trailer (which is was openly mocked several times) and from the bad taste the previous movie left.
